"Make me feel"
my muse confesses their love for your muse.
It had been spoken faster than the Uchiha could stop it, words a bramble in his throat as he had only their aftermath hung in the air like the dissonance of mortar fire. Of course it had come to this. There was war on the isles of Uzushio and he was to be sent, his first since being named his father’s heir. It wasn’t fear that rooted him in place, or the potential of death. Because he’d lived with that his entire life, to the point that he could care less about his losing his life when it was the lives of those he feared worlds more for. He watched with a hitched breath in his throat as Chitose’s beautiful gold eyes widened hugely at his confession, the placid farewell before he was to leave on their first war campaign completely shattered.
Was he being cruel, by telling her this? Telling her that he loved her?
Madara didn’t know if or when he’d return. The feelings he’d been nurturing since their formative years as gawky teenagers had flowered into something whole and devastating, and for the first time in the several years he’d known her, he didn’t know what was to come. They stood on the docks over a tibutary of the Suigen-chi River that branched into the Naka that would’ve taken them back to Uchinada, Izuna yet to return from the guest lodgings with his own luggage, straggler though he was. And for once, Madara was grateful.
“I love you,” he repeated, but more assertively, with a sounder footing in his voice. “You don’t have to love me back, Chi-chan, but with this war, I--” he inhaled shakily, “I don’t know if or when I’ll return. I can’t... I can’t just leave this to rot in my chest and be done with it. You don’t even have to answer me, or say it back. But--you have to know. That’s all I care about. I love you. It’s there and even I don’t know what to do with it except tell you. I... I hope I can see you soon, when this is all over, Lady Kurogane.”
