In 2010, the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra played The Imperial March at the Sommernachtskonzert in the garden of the Schönbrunn Palace in front of 100.000 people. (Summer Night Concert Schönbrunn). In 2020, they played it again in the Golden Hall of the Musikverein Wien. This time directed by John Williams himself. "And I have to tell you, it was honestly the best presentation of that march that I ever heard." Source: John Williams
Adorable. Please senpai, let us play
"I read once in an interview with John Williams that on the first day of rehearsal he didnât want them to play the Imperial March because they already rehearsed a lot that day and itâs a quite taxing piece for the brass section so he wanted to give them a break - until the musicians themselves came up to him and said âwe really want to play it, thoughâ"
"âAt the intermission of one of the rehearsals, the players came and said to me âMaestro, can we play The Imperial March (from Star Wars)?â And I said, âwell certainly we can; if you have the music, Iâd be happy to conduct it.â âOh we have the music,â they said, âwe know it!â I told them I thought Iâd already given them too much work for a two-hour concert, and they said âwell you have, but we want to play The Imperial March for you; itâs the new Radetzky!â Iâve never heard it played so brilliantly, I must say. All the brilliant orchestras Iâve played it with have never been quite like this; it had a kind of force and power that was an expression of their own spirit and history. It was really quite thrilling.â
OK this comment is out of pocket
