tonight im thinking about how tonraq and senna met. i love the fandom tropes of “he was wandering around after arriving in the South Pole, not realizing he was in a dangerous area” or “idiot gets into fights and keeps getting black eyes/broken ribs that the (cute) healer has to fix.” what are some of you guys’ favorite senraq meeting ideas???

What if... tonraq gives senna a betrothal necklace and he’s all nervous and she’s like “bitch wtf is this” bc the swt doesn’t do betrothal necklaces

I can imagine it now, Tonraq, who has been told many stories of his dad making a betrothal necklace and presenting it to his mom, and who has also fantasized about making his own necklace for his future wife. He definitely doesn’t have a list of designs in his room.

But then he goes to the SWT, and while he doesn’t see many betrothal necklaces, he sees one on Katara, and since he doesn’t really know the history behind it, he assumes that Aang gave it to her. 

And then he gets together with Senna, and its going great! Tonraq has been working on creating a necklace just for her. 

And then the day comes, he pulls her to the place where they actually started talking, and presents the necklace to her with a hopeful smile. 

And poor Senna, she just stands there for a bit, before asking what it is.

Tonraq just quickly explains the necklace, and Senna just stares at him before saying, That’s interesting, i don’t think that’s how it goes here, before explaining that they didn’t really do marriage. 

They kinda switch the conversation, and when they go back, Tonraq actually goes to Katara and asks her for advice. 

So I did a bit of research on Inuit marriage and I read that most couples started to live together without marriage and were considered married after the birth of their first child. Please please please correct me if i’m wrong. 

And I think that’s how Tonraq and Senna would proceed :D
