SKTT | Areas to Stay for KCONLA!
KCON LA 2017 is just around the corner and if you’re traveling into town and are wondering what areas you should stay, this is the blog post for you!
LA is a huge city and can be quite overwhelming for some people so we hope this will give you a better idea of the layout of the city and where might be the best place for you to stay based on your wants and needs :)
This one might be a given but if you’re after convenience DTLA is the place for you. Not only is the KCON venue located here but its walkability is a plus if you want to just explore a small area and don’t want to deal with the hassle of good ol’ LA traffic. There’s metro stations all over downtown as well as Uber and Lyft if you want to get out of downtown, too! The downside is it can be expensive, and some areas (*cough* skid row *cough*) aren’t as safe as others so make sure you’re walking around in the right areas.
You’re coming to KCON! Of course Koreatown is a must, whether it’s to stay here or just to visit. Located no more than a 10 minute car ride away from Staples Center, Ktown is littered with cafes, restaurants, shops, and even a movie theater. Although it’s a little bit further from KCON festivities, you’ll still be immersed in Korean culture everywhere you go here. Not to mention the food is to kill for!
Now we’re going a little further away from LA Live, but still not too far away! Hollywood is the hub of tourist activity in Los Angeles. If your goal is to explore the rest of LA before or after your KCON experience, Hollywood is a good place to be! There are tons of cheap hostels aimed towards tourists and out of towners and major streets like Hollywood Blvd, Vine, and Sunset are full of places to shop, eat, and drink. There’s also two metro stations in the area and you can easily access the rest of LA via Uber or Lyft if you don’t want to rent a car.
UNIVERSAL CITY/NORTH HOLLYWOOD
A little further out you’ll find ourself in the infamous “Valley” - but don’t let that deter you! Prices will definitely be cheaper in these areas and you’re only 20 minutes away from downtown (without traffic, of course ;)) The reason we felt like we should call out this area is because there are two metro stations that can take you to downtown AND you’re close to Universal Studios and HOGWARTS. Nuff said.
Okay, this area is neither cheap nor close to Staples Center... but if you want to be by the ocean in the morning while you wake up and prepare to go see your favorite KPOP idols and artists then so be it! Even if you don’t decide to stay here do be sure to make a trip out to Santa Monica and see the pier! Remember, KARD filmed here recently. Who knows, maybe they’ll make a trip back and you’ll run into them!
Of course, there are plenty of other areas in LA - again, it is a HUGE city! We felt these would be the best options but if you’re not seeing anything in these areas, try places like Echo Park, Silver Lake, Mid-City, Culver City...
KCON also has an official hotel registration system on their website so check that out too for other options! And if you have any questions, comments, or anything at all just drop us a message on Twitter or Facebook @seoulkonnect ! We look forward to seeing you at KCONLA!!
