Makeup: Shiny Stars
Catwalk Trend: Sequinned Eye Makeup a la Chanel (Ideas and Tips)
--
Chanel seems to have a yearly love affair with Sequins and sparkle. Last year, they went minimalistic and split a single round pailette and stuck it onto models' lower lash lines, then loaded on the mascara, a warm tawny blush, and natural-looking lips.
This year, they loaded on large-sized hexagonal glitter flakes along the entire lash line and then stuck a few more onto lashes for effect.
I don't personally find that the most flattering and comfortable look to wear (honestly it looks like a bit of a mess, but who am I to argue with high fashion?), but here are some ideas if you'd like to try the more toned-down look, which I absolutely love!
It's a great way to jazz up your look for a party without having to do a whole lot of makeup. Read on for tips and tricks!
Get white/clear lash adhesive. These will go clear when they dry. Any black adhesive is going to look messy, and it won't be pretty if you happen to position it wrong and need to shift it.
It's not always easy getting both pieces on in exactly the same position on either side. Use a light colored eye pencil to make a mark first, THEN go in with your glue and sequin when you're happy with the placement.
You can choose all kinds of sequins. It doesn't need to be round. I personally think flowers are especially cute for a flower-pixie sort of look.
Avoid shapes that look odd when split. There are stars, triangles, shells and curved leaves that just look a little odd when split. If you want, just wear a whole sequin under each eye instead of splitting them.
If your sequin is curved (meaning one surface is concave, and one surface is convex), apply glue to the concave side that dips in. Your sequin will look better on the lid when it curves outward like a little button.
Allow your glue to dry for close to a minute or more if you are using a larger sequin! Sequins are not small, and the weight will shift it a bit when applied before the glue dries enough.
Buy a bag of mixed sequins instead of a whole pack of the same stuff! This way you get to experiment with different shapes, colors, and finishes. Some are holographic, some are metallic, some are translucent...
