ライオンと私 ・ 動物園にいるライオンはエサ抜きの日があるそうですね。これは野生の肉食動物は毎日エサを捕まえることができる訳ではないのを再現して、たまに空腹にした方が体調が良くなるからみたいですね。 ・ ライオンと言えばディズニー映画でライオンキングと言う作品があり手塚治虫のジャングル大帝レオをディズニーが模倣したのでは？と言う話にもなりましたね。 ・ 主人公の名前がシンバでしたが、これはサンスクリット語でライオンを意味するsimhaから来ているのでしょうね。 ・ 紀元前5世紀。ヴィジャヤの王はライオンと人間との間に生まれたことから、彼の子孫がいる島はライオンの島という意味の「シンハディーパ」となりインド洋に浮かぶこの島に交流で訪れたアラブ人商人は訛って、こう言ったそうですね。 ・ と言うわけで本日のランチは #SERENDIB #セレンディッブ です。近所を散歩していたら #カレー屋 さんができたんだなと思っており、ようやく初訪問です。 ・ #カレー は2種類あってランチプレートと、さらに色々と乗った #スリランカプレート があって、そちらの方にしました。 ・ メインは肉か魚かを選べてポークにしました。打ち合わせが続き13時に近い時間でしたが、席を間引いていることもあって自分の後に入ろうとした人は何人も並んでいるよう。 ・ 5分もしないうちに綺麗に盛り付けられた #スリランカカレー です。赤、茶、橙、黄、緑、白と色々乗っています。 ・ ご飯自体が香りのある日本には無い長細い品種です。これに様々なスパイスで味付けされた様々な具材が時には華やかなハーブの香、抜けるような爽やかさ、時には甘さがあります。 ・ なんだ！この複雑で奥行きのある味わいは！？辛いと言う印象よりかは、食べるごとに表情を変える味わいに最後までなんだろうなんだろうって気になりながら、気づいたら完食です。 ・ この中毒性のある #カレーライス は定期的に通ってしまいますね。次回は魚を選んでみたいと思います。 ・ #蔵前ランチ #蔵前カレー #蔵前エスニック #田原町ランチ #田原町カレー #田原町エスニック #浅草ランチ #浅草カレー #浅草エスニック (セレンディッブ) https://www.instagram.com/p/CNLhDtrg0BZ/?igshid=foa2ose004xv

And it’s interesting partially because---in older European literature I’ve read (err, not much)---Sri Lanka often has a presence as a “land of magic” that isn’t particularly connected with the idea of India as a land of magic. These days I think that to many Europeans (and many others, including many Indians), there’s a temptation to think of Sri Lanka as being some strange offshoot of India---(I think one of russell peter’s dumb russell peter jokes was to refer to “sri lankans” as “the lost indians”, ugh)---but as far as I can tell Ceylon/Serendib possesed it’s *own* obscure Oriental magic to the Europeans in old terms (when I used to come across the term when I started reading I’m not even sure I believed it was Sri Lanka...)
