For the next few days, until his discharge, Hajoka visited his son at the hospital. Kakashi, however, never came. Not once. And that absence gnawed at Serishi, twisting inside him, especially after he had finally dared to speak to him unofficially and call him "Dad". He had hoped… but hoped for what exactly? He didn’t know. When he was finally allowed to leave, Serishi walked home alone. His mother was on a mission, leaving him to navigate the streets, his hands shoved deep into his pockets, his mind replaying the events in the hospital over and over. He couldn’t shake the worry - or the hollow ache of missing his father. And then the Sixth appeared. Just like that, as if he had always been there, waiting. Kakashi’s gaze swept over him, steady and piercing. Serishi felt the heat in his chest, the sudden tightness, as Kakashi’s eyes lingered on the scar above his right eyebrow. Every detail of him seemed to be memorized in that single look. Serishi froze. His pulse thundered in his ears. The silence stretched, heavy and suffocating, and every second felt like an eternity. Finally, Kakashi spoke, his voice calm but carrying a weight that pressed against Serishi’s chest. “Discharged?” Serishi swallowed hard. He wanted to say more, to spill everything he felt, but all that came out was a quiet, uncertain: “Yeah.” And then it happened. Something Serishi had never imagined - Kakashi closed the distance in an instant, arms wrapping around him with the kind of force and protectiveness that stole his breath. Serishi felt the heat of his father’s chest against his own, the firm weight of him, the steady rhythm of a heartbeat that was terrifying and comforting at once. “Don’t ever scare me like that again,” Kakashi murmured, voice low, almost tender, though the command beneath it left no room for argument. Serishi’s chest tightened. His stomach flipped. Fear, relief, love - they all collided at once. He had imagined this moment countless times, wondered if it would ever come… and now it was here, and it was real. His hands rose slowly, trembling, to Kakashi’s back, pressing against him, returning the embrace. It was awkward. Hesitant. Perfect. And for the first time in what felt like forever, Serishi allowed himself to breathe. To feel. To let the tight knot of fear and longing in his chest loosen, if only a little. He was safe. His father was here. And somehow, despite everything, it was enough.
