A Dry White Season

It is a dry white season dark leaves don’t last, their brief lives dry out and with a broken heart they dive down gently headed for the earth not even bleeding. it is a dry white season brother, only the trees know the pain as they still stand erect dry like steel, their branches dry like wire, indeed, it is a dry white season but seasons come to pass.

Tell me how to be okay without getting 3 weeks worth of kisses, 3 weeks of goodnight & good morning texts, 3 Sundays without cooking you lunch with your mom, 3 weeks without having your body pressed against mine. I shouldn't be so selfish I have friend's who wait months to see their lovers, & one who's never even held hers. Besides, you're going to see your family, my second family I've never seen or met. I can't help but to wonder if you're going to miss me as much as I'm going to miss you, & if you'll tell everyone about me. I know you're leaving for a good reason & that I shouldn't be so selfish but I can't hide the fact that I wish I don't have to go 3 weeks without your bear hugs where all I smell is car oil.
