Leadership
What makes an exceptional leader? It is the ability to sacrifice and put others before themselves.
If a group of a thousand people travel together, and one is left behind, a good leader will turn the entire 999 people around to save the one they lost.
Some may wonder how such a group would be effective, always stopping to watch this person or that.
And to this I say, how would a group be effective not doing this? Sure, the first time someone is lost, the people might reason ‘well, there isn’t time for just one person, we all could be in jeopardy!’
But then, after awhile, they’d be considering ‘well, what if I were that one person? This group would leave me behind...’
How exactly would a group function if every individual in that group knew for certain that they were valuable only as they related to the group?
Now, how would a group function if every person in that group knew their group held them in higher esteem than the entirety of the group?
A 1000 person group would have to turn around again and again and again, or would they?
I’d argue that this type of group would never have to turn around, because everyone would be operating on a level far exceeding what has ever been seen.
While a group of self-disposable individuals would live with insecurity, disloyalty and distrust.
This is why individuals should always take precedence in effective groups!
And it is the duty of a leader to set this precedence, by setting themselves last, they give permission to the entire group to set themselves before each other.
