The things I do out of boredom at work
When you are ten (10) minutes from closing and you see someone on the street reaching for the door handle
restaurant/bar jobs are for complainers!!!!!
If they don't give me my fucking money and let me go home to my cat, cigarettes, and alcohol... bodies are gonna start dropping.
Interaction:
I am currently in between jobs and I’ve applied to a production starting in May but unsure I’ll be asking to come on it so still looking around.
I’ve spotted a sign in the window of a restaurant near where I lived about two weeks ago and it was still up while walking by it so I went in to inquire (It said I can inquire inside on the sign).
I’m wearing jeans(non ripped) sensible and clean boots and a jacket. My hair is on the short side and is faded red and blond died, dark roots very visible. (It’s quite the look, not natural but my mom said it looked fashionably punk) the style falls like Jacks from Titanic.
I describe myself because I want to give you everything to help me figure out why I was dismissed so abruptly.
Anyway. So, I ask for the manager in a clear, friendly and well spoken way. He comes out and we exchange names. I then tell him if I can ask a few questions about the position before I ask for his email to send my resume. He says go right ahead.
I ask if he has questions first just to be polite but he says to go ahead with mine.
So I first ask him what positions he’s wanting to fill. He says kitchen and server staff. I say alright, that’s great, I’d probably apply for the server position. Then I ask what the circumstances are for looking for more employees. He asks what I mean and I tell him “Oh I mean did people quite, or did people get fired or did someone change careers-“
He then says that he just wanted to have more employees. And I smile and acknowledge his answers. I then ask “What he would say his managing style is like”. I don’t quite remember him giving me a clear answer for this one before telling me that “I don’t think you’re right for the position”.
I then accept his ending of the conversation and thank him for his time, saying goodbye and going.
Did I do something I shouldn’t have for him to not consider me as a potential employee? I thought I was confident, was I too confident? Did I misstep and commit a social no-no with the job inquiring process? Was I being too inquisitive and unprofessional somehow?
If I had feedback of any kind it would help a lot. In the past I’ve been bad at professional interaction not knowing the rules of them and I want to be able to know what not to do.
Thank you all!
Starting a new job today
I'm gonna have to go by my deadname at least for a little bit. Looks like I gotta suck it up :c
I need a new job like right fucking now....[Rant]
So I've been working at this diner for almost two years, and I like to consider myself really experienced and more familiar with the place than most people who work there. And cool thing too, most of my coworkers think that i should be a server and they constantly tell my boss why im not one and she just ignores the question.
Any who... I've been bugging my boss about me getting promoted to a sever, which is the usual way to get promoted; and when i ask her about it again she just comes out of nowhere and tells me... laughingly...
"Hahaha It is more likely that I will win the lottery than you and him (this other person who has been here as long as me and wants to get promoted) getting a server job..." and she went on trying to be funny. So pretty much she said that i shouldnt have my hopes up because they want 'new' faces... What ever that fucking means.
Whats worst, this took place a few weeks ago, and right after she told me that; she hired a new person who is supposed to be a new server soon but who is dumber than a pile of rusty bricks, and soon hiring another person.
So my hopes just went down the toilet... and being told in your face while they laugh at you. Not fucking cool.
