Old news, but YouTube is blocking a lot of videos with music content in America because of copyright bullshit involving SESAC. Who should I be mad at?
Edit: Both of them, apparently.

MY SOMG IS BACK!!!!
I just audibly gasped when I was able to successfully play American Idiot without the stupid fucking sesac message
"This video contains content from SESAC. It is not available in your country."
Been seeing this on youtube?
The reason why is that google (who owns youtube) is fighting with SESAC over music licensing, and any video containing SESAC songs is subject to ban in the USA as of late September 2024.
Who is SESAC?
SESAC stands for the Society of European Stage Authors and Composers, which has been around since 1930 and, according to its website, “...currently licenses the public performance of more than 1.5 million songs on behalf of its 15,000+ affiliated songwriters, composers, and music publishers.”
So basically, google is in a pissing contest with a european music licensing organization and that music is unavailable via google-hosted services until that gets resolved. If it ever does.
Reason 786215547 why reliance on streaming music is bad, and why you should consider physical media and/or building up your personal collection of mp3 files.
In a statement issued to MBW this afternoon, Scott Jungmichel, President & COO, SESAC Performing Rights, said: “We have reached an agreement with YouTube to equitably compensate SESAC’s songwriters and publishers for the use of their music.”
YouTube said in a statement published via social media over the weekend its deal with SESAC had “expired without an agreement on renewal conditions despite our best efforts”.
Artists and publishers representef by SESAC reachec an agreement, that content that was removed by YouTube in the US due to a licensing dispute between the platform and SESAC will be re-published and re-distributed according to SESAC demand that "YouTube has to equitably compensate SESAC’s songwriters and publishers for the use of their music”.
Good news for artists in the USA! There are similar issues with all streaming services globally, where for instance Spotify "rewards track artist" with a hard to say "fair deal" compensation where they "split profit" with the artist for their streamng services in the sum of 0,005 EUR, which is totally not acceptable by producers worldwide. Spotify didn't change the pricing model even after a petition on change.org where producers proposed a 1 EUR per stream to be considered a compensation for the hard work.
If you agree that creating music is a hard work that digital corporations such #spotify will need to compensate artist as the source for the growth of their business model, where premium account just made 30% in a year from it's revenue channels.
I'm asking supporters of @clu3io and professionals at #sesac #gema #sazas etc. for help to finally form an idea on how to fight the music industry corporations so newcomers will get the decent share from sucess of all digital based solutions where income is based on artist's original content, time and dedication.

Are you priviledged to make music as your professional choice or you must have a job first, to finance these corporations?

SESAC strikes deal with YouTube ‘to equitably compensate SESAC’s songwriters and publishers for the use of their music.’…
When will my wife (Green Day) return from war (YouTube SESAC contract issues)
Hey y'all.
You may have noticed that several of my reviews are no longer available on YouTube. Well, unfortunately, a lot of them have been blocked in the U.S. during the YouTube/SESAC legal dispute.
What is SESAC?
Reviews that were affected by this dispute include:
Top 10 Surprising One-Hit Wonders
A Look Back at Gangnam Style
Top 6 Most Hated Christmas Songs
Caress of Steel by Rush
High School Musical 3: Senior Year
Slave to the Grind by Skid Row
Another Top 10 Worst Censored Lyrics
Sorry. :/
I really am sorry, guys. This is super disheartening, especially as I'm still dealing with YouTube's copyright BS with my Rudolph review, and I wish there was something more I could say or do besides that. But I guess this really just highlights the need for another platform to break up YouTube's monopoly on the video sharing business. Because this is unfair, and it's the biggest reason why I've lost motivation to keep making reviews.
In the meantime, all of those videos are available on Vimeo if you want to watch them.
TheHappySpaceman Productions is a member of Vimeo, the home for high quality videos and the people who love them.
Well Youtube and "SESAC" just nuked a quarter of my old music playlist.
Bleak.
