24 - The Avalanches - Since I Left You“A song by a band you wish were still together”The Avalanches were the first to come to mind for this one. The band hasn’t necessarily ‘broken up’ as much as shrunk, only one or two members remain, IIRC. And it seems doubtful, after about 14 years of talk, that a follow-up will come. Even if it never comes, we still have their debut, which is one of those albums that grows more mythical every year. And for good reason! It would be an amazing album even if it wasn’t constructed of hundreds of tiny sampled crumbs. It thrives on making paradoxes seem in harmony; dense and danceable, eclectic and seamless. And just really, really happy. If I could choose one album to listen to before I die, this would be it. Because of all that, I didn’t want to take up the task of picking just one song, so I just linked the whole album. 28 - Duel of the Iron Mic by GZAI don’t have the same sappy sort of personal connection to Liquid Swords, but it’s also a really great album! Really fun to listen to GZA just pronounce things, and string phrases together, even if the subject matter is dark and gritty. And everything flows together so well with the beat, it’s sort of hypnotic. 30 - 1000 Umbrellas by XTC“A song that reminds you of yourself”I picked another weird pop song to represent me! I’m a sucker for strings in general, and I love how they warp and swoop around here. Just so off-kilter and summery. That’s all for now y’all, more music asks here, and my ask box in general is always open! Thanks!
