The Giger Function
While exploring fractal flame equations this week, I ran across one I want to call the Giger Function, because its output reminds me of the Gothic Horror of Swiss artist H.R. Giger, known for his iconic posters and album covers, and on his graphic art and sculptures that were key elements of movies like Dune, Alien, and Prometheus.
The equations were generated with a program called JWildfire, distributed off the gaming platform Steam, while Giger's art was hand drawn, or hand-sculpted.
If you look at the ribbed, layered, somewhere-between-animal-and-machine patterns that are persistent elements in Giger's visuals, I think you will see the similarity.
Interesting that there is a fractal for it, but then again, there are fractal equations for any natural pattern, if we can just figure them out. --Steve
