Deconstructing the Iconography of Seth
Exploring Religion in Ancient Egypt.
Posting this one early because i’ve never seen it before. note the sha in the hieroglyphics.
It was sometimes considered auspicious to make sacrifices to Set during certain seasons of the year when his influence was considered the greatest. An antelope was sacrificed to stop Set from attacking the full moon. Sometimes birds and fish associated with Set were caught and hacked to pieces while priests chanted, “Ye shall be cut to pieces, and your members shall be hacked asunder, and each of you shall consume the other; thus doth he triumph over all his enemies.”

For the Egyptians, accustomed to considering themselves the best people in the world, the conquest by the Hyksos brought tremendous culture shock, and subsequent Egyptian propganda portrayed the Hyksos as godless and brutal. The truth, however, seems to have been rather different. The Hyksos enthusiastically adopted Egyptian culture, being particularly devoted to the god Set. They even sponsored the preservatiion of documents dating to the beginning of the old kingdom that otherwise would have been lost. Their biggest crime, however, was in being foreigners, something that the Egyptians could not tolerate.

Interesting! I never noticed that and other historians like Joan Lansburry never mentioned it, what a neat find.
