“Wait, don’t touch that!” Harry says, and it’s mostly the panic in his voice that makes Louis stop, even if he doesn’t let go. He looks back over his shoulder.
“Why? What is it?” He asks, heart beating fast in his chest just from having all of Harry’s attention on him. He’s usually pretty shy lately, averting his eyes more often than not every time Louis comes over. “Your secret diary?”
Harry’s face goes scarlet, brow scrunched up in either embarrassment or outrage.
“No!” he squawks out and Louis grins at him.
“You sure?” He taps his fingers against the book on Harry’s desk, obviously a journal of some kind. Louis is so, so curious about the sort of thing Harry might have written on it, stuff so embarrassing he looks like he’s either going to cry or tackle Louis to the floor before he can open it.
Louis is not that much of an arsehole, though, he’s not planning on peeking, no matter how funny it’d be, or how high the chances are that he’d get to learn who Harry’s mysterious crush is.
Gemma told him last week that Harry’s got it bad for someone, and it’s been bothering Louis for days now. No matter how many times Louis asked since then, Harry never budged. Just turned redder and redder, mouth going tighter and smaller the more Louis pestered him.
It’s not like Louis is going to do anything about it, he just wants to know. Just because. But Harry’s one stubborn prat, and definitely not as easy to manipulate as he was before he hit puberty. He’s grown suspicious. It’s not cute at all.
“Louis, come on,” he says now, voice cracking, hovering by the doorway, twisting his hands together. “Don’t.”
“But it’s not a diary, Harry. Or is it?”
“No,” Harry insists.
“Then why so scared?”
Harry opens his mouth to argue so more before snapping his mouth shut, twisting his lips. He squares his shoulders,suddenly looking angry. Louis’ not sure he’s ever seen Harry truly angry at him before.
He takes his hand away and turns around to face him properly, hands on his hips. He waits to see what Harry will do.
