#sevendaysinisolation⁣ 7/7⁣ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣ We’ve talked a bit about how to fill a large house, because we have had more space than we needed for a few years. I have several spots here that remind me so much of the pubs I visited in the UK, and we have used them similarly.⁣ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣ Now, of course, we’re full up. With two adults working from home and three kids schooling here, even our 2700 square feet is at capacity, but we’re dreaming bigger anyway, imagining a large villa-style home to fill up as a retreat for our dream clients someday, where we’ll fill out a cottage on the side (because we prefer cottage living), and have space for anything we want to create, and cappuccinos and homemade croissants will just be part of the morning routine.⁣ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣ Of course, we’re years away yet - but it’s been feeling more and more possible as we have been growing here in our Great In-Between in California.⁣ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣ It’s fun to end this small daily photo project today with an eye on a bigger one. #sevendaysinisolation⁣ 6/7⁣ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣ Yesterday I thought I might continue on past a week on this little project. ⁣ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣ Today I am not so sure. ⁣ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣ I missed a supplement and my hormones are in a freefall at the moment, though, and I can’t make any life-altering decisions on days like this. My emotions rarely arbitrate good judgment.⁣ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣ I’m taking the bed route for my choice today, though I did pull off another image (in my stories) as all willingness to do *anything* self-portrait-related dissipated.⁣ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣ Today is a human day. A weepy day. A day when I feel everything, no matter how cold and logical I try to be. #sevendaysinisolation⁣ 5/7⁣ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣ I have only two more days on this small daily project, and I have seen more momentum on every level this week than I have had in months, even with some health-related tiredness this week.⁣ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣ It’s been very good to hold myself accountable for this project. It’s been very good to photograph me and my life and find new patterns for creativity. I haven’t chosen to be where I am for a long time. I haven’t really been able to choose that.⁣ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣ Now, as I find my place again with the light, I am finding my place again in my own life. ⁣ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣ I feel excited again about the future, and excited about what I have to bring to it — and all this from making time to create just one image, do one thing that I love per day.⁣ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣ What are your thoughts on momentum, rebuilding it after trauma, and holding onto it once you’ve gained it? “𝘐𝘵 𝘮𝘢𝘺 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘣𝘦 𝘮𝘶𝘤𝘩 𝘭𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵, 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘪𝘵 𝘣𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘥𝘢𝘳𝘬𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴.” - Charles Bukowski⁣ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣ #sevendaysinisolation⁣ 3/7⁣ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣ We drove out of town and up to the mountains the other morning (I think it was Wednesday), piling into the car at 5:30am and driving east into the sunrise with our windows down and the herbal smells of the foothills flooding in with the cool air.⁣ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣ This social distancing has created a bit of a return to my homeschooled childhood for me - we rarely left home except for church, and grocery shopping for eight kids. And sometimes (a few times per week if we were lucky or if my parents were thinking of moving again), we’d all climb into our 12-passenger van and go for a rambling drive to explore the world outside whatever home we were in.⁣ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣ I have noticed that I still need these small adventures from my isolation here, and remember that I have sought them out before, when my health collapsed in college and isolated me from my friends, and my first love. I drove and drove to process my grief, to find the light, to remember that I still had choices: left or right, familiar or something new, breathe or cry.⁣ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣ When I get into my car now, it’s the same. Sometimes I go by myself, sometimes I take my family. I go to remind myself that there is light in the darkness, choice in the sameness, to acknowledge that I am not a prisoner, no matter how the walls may close in on a given day.⁣ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣ I hope you are finding light wherever you are isolated. #sevendaysinisolation ⁣ TWO/SEVEN⁣ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣ I had a conversation with a friend who spent the first part of her lockdown waiting to go back to work; once she got back, her busy has been saving her.⁣ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣ So yesterday I began a new project; you might have seen it in my stories. Inspired by @annstreetstudio’s #isolationcreation and @marte_marie_forsberg’s #60daysofcreation, I decided to pick up my real camera again and take a real photo each day for seven days. It’s not a big project, but I needed something to center my days on for a little bit. I needed to face myself and some hard questions about an “I can’t” that I have received into my soul. I needed to make a few images I have been craving, no branding attached.⁣ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣ I am not proud of this image except that I got it made (there is so much technical stuff wrong with it), but I am only holding myself to one image every day, and I do love how this one feels, in spite of its flaws. ⁣ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣ I need to try again to see myself where I am and to see where I am instead of running away. I have gotten very good at running away.⁣ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣ So I am #stayinghome, and 𝘵𝘳𝘺𝘪𝘯𝘨, in small bits so I don’t get too overwhelmed. I am not sure what’s going to happen in my heart or my direction. Everything is very fluid right now in my psyche (has anyone else noticed a seismic shift in your values and perspective since all this began?). I am trying to be open to my intuition.
