An Engagement Party

(Written by @severus-snickerdoodle and myself. Featuring @asklestrange as Lucius Malfoy @azkabqn as Bellatrix Lestrange @asklunaloovegood as Abraxas Malfoy @severus-snickerdoodle as Severus Snape and myself as Narcissa Black)

No expenses were spared when it came to Lucius Malfoy and Narcissa Black’s Engagement Party. It was being held in the third, and biggest, ballroom of the Black Estate. They served food made by the Prophets most recent 5-star chef and had bottles of the rarest wine in France floating every few yards on the finest of silver. Everywhere you looked were people of influence. Scholars, company owner, even the Russian Minister of Magic, and all at the center of it was Narcissa Black and her soon to be husband.

As far as Narcissa knew the party was going perfectly, Lucius, however, was not finding things satisfactory.

As Narcissa left she heard Lucius apologizing for the delay with the food. She personally would have kept her mouth shut and not brought attention to it, but she supposed that was just a difference in personalities.

The two looked over to Bellatrix’s husband. The man once was unable to handle such a big crowd but Bellatrix had refused to have such a weak husband.

As Narcissa hurried out of the room Severus approached Lucius.

Narcissa was walking back from the kitchens. The engagement party was moving along nicely. She was about to turn the corner when her fiance’s voice made her pause.

The infamous Malfoy sneer rang clear through when he said the last word for his sentence.

Narcissa heard a set of footsteps start walking to the other end of the corridor. When the man’s footsteps could no longer be heard the was a voice that spoke in a whisper.

With that Lucius followed his father back to the party.

Narcissa turned to see Severus Snape, the boy who followed Lucius around while in Hogwarts, was standing right next to her. Thankful that she had not started crying, Narcissa did her best to put on the famous House of Black expression and even her voice.

“You get used to it,” he said. But that doesn’t make it right. For years marriage had been Narcissa’s goal, it was her dream. She knew she would never marry for love, but a marriage meant she could escape this place and its horrors. But Severus had unknowingly made it abundantly clear that she was replacing one kind of abuse for another. At least this one didn’t leave bruises that were visible and hopefully would happen less often.
