The Slytherins and Gryffindors all sat at their respective tables in their first potions class of the week. 

Pansy hesitated, watching Snape as he turned back to his desk.

Draco sat in the Slytherin common room later that day. He remained looking like his always put together self while the rest of the house was relaxing.

Blaise sits, getting ready for some sort of event as everyone else is winding down for the night.

Daphne was sitting alone in the common room, getting distracted working on her homework when Pansy walked in.

Snape begins listing off the pairs, Ron Weasley and Blaise Zabini, Harry Potter and Draco Malfoy, and then. . .Hermione Granger and Pansy Parkinson. 

(But secretly Pansy loves the way Hermione’s hair gets frizzy from the heat)

Hermione: She was probably so busy with her make up she didn’t even do the reading!

(But secretly Hermione finally understands the appeal of makeup because if it can make Pansy look that good…well…)

Pansy thinks: because Snape wouldn’t take points from Slytherin even if she blew up the classroom. It’s about priorities, honestly.

~five minutes later~

Pansy does as said and looks up at Hermione when she has finished, who has her head deep in the textbook.

Their hands brush when they reach for an ingredient at the same time and both gasp and jerk apart

~next day~

Hermione wishes  that they had been paired together, but dare not admit it.

Hermione waits a beat before also raising her hand.

Hermione quickly exits the class only to find Pansy waiting right outside. 

Hermione presses her lips to Pansy’s before the other girl can reply.

Neither girl goes back to class for a long while
