Now my last ramble of the day:

Enough of it. I’m taking her away from all of you until you read Chosen of the Wolf and analyze how loving and tender her interactions with her two lovers are.
Okay obviously I’m being hyperbolic and this isn’t prescriptive but it’s still worth considering because TEW much Ambessa content regularly toes (read TRAMPLES) the line of “big black sex beast” and regular “muscle mommy” shenanigans. And someone’s gotta say sumn.
Azizi (her husband) definitely gives gentle dom established by years of patience and love. He defers to her in nearly every other area of their lives and trusts her but understands she loves being a troublemaker. So, if you want a dynamic with someone who Ambessa has known and loved for a long time with minimal/no angst, that would likely be a model.
Rudo, her baby daddy, is extremely attentive and also a little shit ™️. Because of this, Ambessa takes a brattier side to her interactions with him that is still underscored by deep tenderness and longing. Their relationship is coated in getting under each other’s skin and trading barbs that poke at each other but don’t cut each other down.
Ambessa as a character respects strength but also discipline. I can see her being into BDSM dynamics and with a reader she could take a disciplinarian approach (orders, guiding, punishment) but I love playing with her tendency to need several talking-to’s to make prudent decisions. So if you’re really feeling nasty, a domme reader who plays with her sense of control (no degradation but very stern). Think “Babygirl” (that Nicole Kidman movie but she’s not a cheater and she’s more accepting/in-tune with her kink side).
Now canonically she and Azizi have an open marriage, so one doesn’t have to write out the relationships that temper/guide her in order to hunch or matter to her.
In general, Ambessa has a lot of potential for bratting, disciplinary domming, and tender slow/vulnerable sex. Hardly any of her descriptions veer into “animalistic” or “rough” territory when she’s being intimate or being around her loved ones. She receives as well as gives and doesn’t violate the consent of her partners, nor does anything in the text suggest she does.
Now when it comes to angst there is a lot of potential there! She’s a character obsessed with vision and power, not for its own sake, but for the sake of her loved ones. She doesn’t challenge the systems she’s raised in which puts her at odds with the people who matter to her.
With Rudo, she does miss him dearly and loves him but her own thirst for revenge against her cousin outweighs any love and peace she finds in their reunion. (doesn’t help he confessed to killing her granddad) With Azizi, her own ambition to wrest control of the family from her cousin and clear her name outweighs staying safe with him and her kids in Bel’zhun.
But what both these circumstances show is that outside stressors are the main cause of her worst behavior. Ambessa in modern circumstances, or any other AU, would likely lack anything that causes her to be overtly cruel (without a thought out similar backstory).
