Febuwhump Day 25: Medical Restraints

After such a long, excruciating monotony of monitors beeping around him, Raph almost jumped at the whoosh of the laboratory door. Somehow he contained it to a miniscule twitch; it could be excused as any natural twitch when sleeping. Blood-crusted, swollen fingers dug ever so slightly into the mittens he’d earned last shift, clawing at the nurse’s eyes.

Slow, even breaths. Keep playin’ possum. Bide your time. Every inhale rattled the locks of the “safety vest”, stiflingly tight to keep him strapped as flat on the bed as his shell allowed.

“You are certain the subject is unconscious?” A stilted, detached voice, presumably the head honcho overseeing this Terran test facility.

“If not unconscious, entirely exhausted from its earlier struggle,” the doctor assured. Sucker. “It has remained still the last forty vreens. We have scanned it twice without acknowledgement or resistance.”

“What have you gleaned from this?”

Footsteps. Close. Closer.

“This appears to be an anomaly among the other Earth creatures we have obtained. Observe its—”

The instant foreign fingers brushed his scales, Raph whiplashed his head around and chomped down with all his might. The disgustingly bitter burst of ooze across his tongue and the doctor’s warbling shrieks put a whole new meaning to bloodcurdling.

Alarms shrieked even higher. Nurses swarmed, thrashing him in a frantic tug-of-war that chafed raw wrists and ankles bloody in their restraints, until at last an icy-hot probe pierced his neck.

The resulting yelp loosened his bite force. He would have snapped at them again if not for the heady haze already tingling through him, relaxing him against his will. Heavy eyelids fluttered.

“I won’ stop…I’ll get out. Mmm…m-make ya…pay,” he slurred, just before his dripping jaw went slack and gloved hands hastily crammed it into the confines of a muzzle.
