                       the  sentence  feels  like  a  slap  to  the  face,  lorelai’s  head  snapping  up  to  look  at  the  doctor.  “  you  don’t  know  that  ----  you  don’t  know  anything.  ”  her  words  are  quiet  and  calculated,  perhaps  a  warning  to  implicate  that  it’s  best  to  quit  while  ahead.  “  projecting  your  own  desires  onto  me  isn’t  going  to  give  you  what  you  want.  i  know  you’re  lovesick,  doctor,  but  i  don’t  need  you  getting  all  mushy  on  me.  it’s  gross  and  it  has  absolutely  nothing  to  do  with  my  own  feelings.  ”

                    “  oh,  that’s  good!  that’s  great.  ”  lorelai  practically  seethed  at  the  other.  this  situation  seemed  to  be  unraveling  itself  in  a  way  that  could  only  ever  end  in  tears.  the  anger  was  rising  within  her  ---  a  warmth  coursing  through  her  veins  before  she  finally  explodes;  “  you’re  a  hypocrite  and  a  liar!  if  you  didn’t  want  me  in  your  life,  why  the  fuck  did  you  drag  me  into  it?  i  wanted  no  part  in  any  of  this.  but  you  kept  digging  and  digging,  couldn’t  leave  me  the  fuck  alone!  no  wonder  no  one  stays  around  long  enough  with  you,  doctor.  you’re  a  parasite.  you  latch  on  to  people  and  suck  them  dry  until  you  get  bored,  they  die  or  have  the  common  sense  to  leave  you  behind.  i’ve  seen  the  damage  you  do,  it’s  pathetic.  the  doctor,  a  preacher  of  kindness  and  being  a  good  person?  you’re  the  opposite.  you’re  ---  you’re  disgusting.  so  i  don’t  want  you  in  my  life.  i  want  you  to  go  back  to  whatever  hellhole  you  came  from  and  stay  the  fuck  away  from  me,  okay?  you’d  be  doing  us  both  a  favour.  ”

                 lorelai’s  arms  are  wrapped  tightly  around  her  chest  as  she  looks  to  the  doctor  with  a  grimace.  “  but  i’m  not  yours,  not  really  ---  and  you’re  not  mine.  you  belong  to  so  many  people.  the  people  you  love,  the  people  you  lose,  it  doesn’t  matter.  me?  i’m  simply  another  face  that  gets  lost  in  the  crowd  of  people  who  loved  you.  settling  down  doesn’t  exactly  seem  to  be  your  kind  of  thing,  so  let’s  not  pretend  it  is.  especially  not  with  a  human  like  me.  it  doesn’t  work.  ”  perhaps  it’s  harsh,  but  lorelai  is  tired  of  facing  her  own  emotions.  it’s  better  to  push  her  away  than  to  let  her  be  close.
