This was supposed to be a walking into the first full work week of the new year type post… but it’s Tuesday morning, so you can all guess how well I did at sorting through my inbox after a week of vacation 🙈 Honestly, a lot of the time, walking with one foot in front of the other feels like an accomplishment… even though, in reality, I’m achieving all kinds of things, I’m doing it so frantically that there’s no time to appreciate that, because I need to rush on to whatever is next. I don’t have anything like a solution for that, this is just a glimpse into the reality of this season of my life, which is a bit wild and totally frantic but also, in a lot of ways, pretty cool. Creation is my passion. It’s what drives me - always has been. As a toddler, i loathed colouring books and refused to stay inside the lines, always preferring to draw my own pictures. Creating is never a struggle. Inspiration comes easily. But carving out the time to share my work consistently, to put those creations out into the world, is harder. It’s not that I worry about rejection or scrutiny. Far from it. It’s that I create mostly for myself, so much so that I often forget that part of the intent behind it is to share it. I wind up backlogged, feeling like I’ve let myself down, like I can’t catch up to meet deadlines I’ve set for myself. Sound familiar…? It’s easy to fault yourself for not being able to do it all, for not being as good at everything as you are at some things but - as much as consistency is important, it takes so many different forms, and if you can’t be consistent in everything, that’s okay. Just show up. When you can, where you can, whenever you can find the time. If you set a goal but fail to meet it, that doesn’t mean you quit - just reset and try again. So this is me, following my advice because it’s mostly for me, and showing up. Later than planned, disorganized and without a plan, but here. Bare feet and ankles - without questions, one of the smallest, but greatest, pleasures in life. It’s nearly the end of November, but it was still warm enough yesterday to go out with just that little bit of leg exposed. The warm air, especially when there’s been snow on the ground for weeks, felt like a gift. It was one that won’t last, of course, but we had it, however briefly, and it was wonderful. How I wish I was spending my Monday morning… ☕️ …but here in reality, I’ve been plugging away on a quarterly client presentation for the past hour, so I can get the work I need to do done before my meetings start for the day.
