Press Release - Stockton Animal Services Hires New Shelter Manager

Stockton Animal Services is starting off the New Year with a newly hired shelter manager.Phillip Zimmerman joins SAS after nearly 20 years as a Stockton Police Department employee.

Stockton, CA (PRWEB) January 05, 2015 -- Starting January 1, 2015, Zimmerman will be overseeing and managing all aspects of the shelter, including its partnership with the San Francisco SPCA. “The SF SPCA is excited to work with the new SAS Manager, Phillip Zimmerman. He brings a collaborative spirit and vision that will continue to improve the life saving work at the shelter,” says Dr. Jennifer Scarlett, co-president of the SF SPCA.

The search for a skilled and fitting shelter manager was not an easy feat. Many seasoned animal services parties sat in on the interview process, including SAS neighbor, Front Street Shelter in Sacramento. Gina E. Knepp, Animal Care Services Manager of Front Street Shelter, says “It was a privilege to sit on the selection panel for the Stockton Animal Services Manager. I am excited to see Stockton make a progressive choice in picking someone with a good business mind, strong leadership skills, and a vision for the staff, the Stockton community and most of all, the animals of Stockton.” Tammie Murrell, previously the interim shelter manager of SAS, is especially thrilled for this new change.

“Phillip will be an excellent shelter manager. His experience and knowledge of the city of Stockton will be extremely helpful, but it’s his vision where we see real change for SAS.” Murrell will stay involved in shelter issues.

Zimmerman, along with two new veterinarians hired in December 2014, will be the newest hire at SAS. SAS looks forward to having these fresh faces at the shelter and asks the community to help welcome Phillip Zimmerman to the team.
