Box squats with the youngers last week. Box squats are often used to develop drive from the bottom of the movement increasing power from a stationary point, and sometimes increased emphasis of quad development. However the biggest benefit from my point of view is the extra control required in the concentric phase which leads to control, form and ultimately hypertrophy and strength. At this age increase in weight should be minimal with most gains being made in technique over long periods of time. Weight training in early teenage years should be about developing proprioception. As a general rule intensity should be around 7/10 and no higher. No sets at this age should be leading to overload or breaking down of form.
