I’m suddenly imagining if Allets had to bring Eliote and Luna and Jewel to visit her and meet her parents.
Her parents have pretty much always been the ones making the decisions of who Allets gets to hang out with, and they mostly restrict that to only other princesses, but they’d probably make an exception on that front for Eliote and Jewel and Luna considering they all did manage to get into the legendary School for Good and all. But they’d still be watching their every move to be sure they acted proper enough and didn’t seem like they’d influence Allets in ways they don’t like.
Which is uh. Gonna be tough to say the least. Eliote might be the best of the three at this, but manners still don’t entirely come naturally to her after all her time in isolation out in the woods. And she still might occasionally have trouble biting back on sarcastic remarks or criticism of Allets’ parents’ elitist views or arguments on the behalf of the common folk. Meanwhile, Jewel still isn’t entirely up to speed on social rules just interacting with ordinary people, let alone interacting with royalty in an actual palace. And Luna is...Well, she’s Luna.
I can imagine Allets stressing out prior to the visit, trying to give her friends pointers and stuff. Like, “Jewel, I’m really sorry, I know you don’t like them, but you’re gonna have to wear shoes while we’re there. Going barefoot in the palace is MAJORLY taboo and my parents would NOT like it. And Luna, PLEEEASE try not to cause trouble, just for a little while.”
And Luna goes “Mmmmm that’s a tall order Allets, the more I think about making mischief and mayhem inside a stuffy, fancy royal palace the more delicious it sounds--”
“Luna, they will throw you in the dungeons or exile you forever for that!”
“Only if I get caught...” Luna says thoughtfully under her breath.
“Luna!!” Allets protests. She grabs Luna by the arms. “If you do ANYTHING that upsets them, or anything they disapprove of even a little bit, my parents will never let me talk to you guys or be seen with you guys EVER again!!!”
At which point I imagine Eliote stepping in and saying something or other, I don’t know what.
In any case, I’d think Allets’s parents may also want to know a bunch about each of her friends’ backgrounds, which could get a little problematic. They most likely wouldn’t be able to ask too much about Eliote’s hometown and family before she’d be forced to tell them what happened to them and what her living situation has been since, the former of which might be upsetting for her and the latter of which could lose her some respect points. As soon as they find out that Jewel was the only person living on her island and was raised by a magical tree and a couple of magical plants, they’d likely privately label her as “uncivilized.” And just knowing the name of Luna’s hometown might give them extra reason to look down on Luna right off the bat just by virtue of her being a Reader.
It’s an interesting thing to imagine how their visit would go, how they’d do at trying to behave themselves and where all the little slip-ups would be.
(or big slip-ups in Luna’s case, I think at some point she’d be unable to resist causing a scene.)
In the end I think Allets’s parents WOULD forbid her from spending time with the three of them again, but at this she might finally gain the courage and resolve to argue back against them, though she wouldn’t win. Also it’s not like they can have that kind of command over who she hangs out with while she’s away at school, she’ll most likely continue her time with who she likes there. Nothing her parents can do about it besides make their disapproval very clearly known to her during the times she IS at home. Hence her first time blatantly disobeying them. That could set off a chain of things.
