Photo by @amivitale. The baby elephants of Reteti Elephant Sanctuary (@r.e.s.c.u.e) frolic in their mud bath. Currently, @r.e.s.c.u.e has 25 orphans in their care. Elephants are orphaned for a variety of reasons including poaching, human-wildlife conflict and drought related causes. The goal of @r.e.s.c.u.e is to nurse them back to health, and when they are ready, return them to the wild. Photo by @amivitale. The divine Hamsini. Hamsini was rescued from a well when she was a year old in May 2019. She is cared for by the team at Reteti Elephant Sanctuary (@r.e.s.u.e) in northern Kenya. As the drought here continues, the dropping water table means that the wells are getting deeper and deeper. This makes it increasingly harder for elephants to get to the water and more likely for baby elephants like Hamsini to fall in and be orphaned.
