Sapnap's never met another phoenix before. They're a rare species, so few of them exist on the planet that he's never even glimpsed another creature like him outside of books. He knows another phoenix lives at the palace, somewhere, but he's always assumed they lived with the Empress or something, shut off from him where they can't speak with one another. As far as Sapnap's known his entire life, he's the only one of him there is and the only one he'll ever meet.

Then he climbs the last few steps, lifts his head, and is greeted by a huge, beautiful room stretching ahead of him, not carved by formed directly from the lava rock, in the shape of a cylinder, with lava along the sides for light and seats made from pumice and the obsidian windows letting in sun from every angle.

…and there are phoenixes just like him everywhere.

The same Shadoune that Sapnap killed last year, with no explanation given for how or why he could be here, just warm wings enveloping Sapnap when they'd greeted one another, hugging him close.

"I missed you," Is what he'd said, laughing a little as they both pulled back, and Sapnap knows, deep down, even through his confusion and fear and the grief of losing him back then, the endless pain and sorrow that came from another phoenix's blood on his claws, he missed him too.
