Stefan deserves so much more than Elena
The Dark Dimension being some weird Orientalist idea of "backwards" societies where the women veil and they don't use plates/forks and characters are named Lakshmi is really racist and uncomfortable. Like... Great that they're so against slavery and Damon is freeing all the slaves that he can. But also shows that the author thinks of slavery as a barbaric thing that happens in "exotic backward" countries. Rather than in our own US history.
L.J. Smith said sure Vampires can heal supernatural wounds by feeding victims their blood. But to heal regular wounds they have to use their mouths to direct Power into the wound and cleanse and heal it.
This is how we get both Damon cradling Bonnie and gently feed her from his wrist, AND Damon kneeling in front of Elena, licking her wounded cheek, her pulling his head to her collar bone.
