Another model kit all assembled and finally good to go. Shadow Style Rockman.EXE! This was one of this past winter’s Hobby Rock: The Final event figures. Yet another kit by Planeswalker, who is the creator of most of the kits I end up buying.
So, last Friday, I had it all painted and ready to go, and started the task of gluing all the pieces together. But truth be told, I was a little worried about the weight of the figure overall, and how it would balance once assembled, with nothing more than super glue. And then I realized I was going to have to drill a hole a little into his right leg, to get it into an interlocking position better.
After I did that, I was getting the black pedestal, to attach his foot to, all ready, by attaching that to the base. And, um...got a little too strong pushing the pieces together to get the glue to adhere, and ended up pretty much ripping the paint off the base and chipping paint off a few other body parts by accident. At that point, I thought, ‘man, I better put screw through that base into the pedestal to make sure it’s secure.’ But then I just put it off until today, since it was time to go back to my work week. And also because I finally ran out of black paint after all these kits, and needed to buy more to finish touchup, after my little chipping accident.
Now that a week has gone by, I felt better about the base being securely attached, and had second thoughts about the screw. Didn’t want to ruin the resin, if that didn’t work. And wasn’t sure what length of screw would be best. So I gave it one more try, and thankfully my Gorilla Glue bottle was just the right height to balance under Rock’s chin, while the glue holding his leg to his boot had time to bond and cure. I took the glue bottle away after an hour to take these pics, but I’ll probably leave it under him overnight, just to make sure that the body doesn’t fall off any time soon.
And now Hobby Rock Miyabi’s ninja team is up to 3 finished kits, as seen in the last pic. Dang, this one is so neat and dynamic!
Do the thing, Bart, with feeling!
New Hobby Rock purchases from “The Final” event now in hand!
I got the Shadow Style Rockman kit by Planeswalker, which I wanted the most, for ninja reasons, and Mokocchi’s Auto. Because, well, could you honestly turn down Ariga card art of sexy pose Auto sliding! sliding! into your DMs like that? XD A couple other kits intrigued me this year, but I just wasn’t drawn to a lot of this year’s characters or sculpts, sadly. So I went ahead and only purchased these two.
Gotta say, Auto’s is the most detailed, well-put together instruction manual I’ve ever had from any of the kits I’ve bought. And it probably has the cleanest pieces, with hardly any hanging resin to trim or sand down. Looks like it’ll be fun to put together, once I get it all painted. I’m not used to the kits with movable joints, but it seems like it’ll be similar to the Kotobukiya figures.
Even though I still have enough of a backlog of other Hobby Rock figures to assemble, I’ll probably start over the next few weeks on Shadow Style first, so I can have it together with Shadow Man and Wood Ninja.
Lara deserves to crash out sometimes that is just her god-given right
