Okay, so I got an AU idea that I don’t actually have a solid storyline for. So I’ll just dump drabbles and facts about it here instead! What is the AU? Well, it’s called the Shadow System AU. And it’s basically me just giving Macaque a DID system.

I’ll start with introducing the alters (in the same order they appeared) then get into lore and fun tidbits after the intros.

Second alter for the Shadow System is Macaque. Well, the Six Eared Macaque is, well, you know, his full name.

Originally a protector before later taking over as the host, he looks like Macaque does in LMK. He’s the host, of course he’s gonna make the body match his appearance (and yes, that does mean he calls himself the Six Eared Macaque and only has two ears). While all the alters have their own specific abilities, they all can shape-shift and create glamours.

In terms of powers, Macaque can make shadow portals and shadow weaponry. He’s very sassy and snarky, and a harsh fighter. He is determined to not let himself or anyone in the system get stepped over or hurt ever again. When he first showed up he was a young adult, but has aged up with the body to being an adult adult since then.

Okay, so the first alter for the Shadow System! The oldest alter and first host, Liu’er Mihou.

Mihou can hear everything, even the past and future. Each alter in the system holds a certain ability (the body can do them all but there is a mental block for an alter trying to use a power that isn’t theirs).

I’ll just describe his appearance since if I waited until I drew it out this would take forever (I’m more of a writer than an artist 😅). Anyways, he’s a monkey demon with purple fur and hair, all six ears, light brown skin, and golden eyes (no face mark).

He’s more of a quiet and shy type. Very curious and sweet. In terms of age, he leans more towards young adult, but age slides from that to adult adult.

After Mihou stopped being the host, he took on the role of the system’s caretaker. However, he also has been a consistent co-fronter throughout certain times.

Mihou hadn’t been the only one to grow attached to Wukong. Plum also developed feelings for him, and the falling out in the mountain resulted in her shifting from a helper to trauma holder.

In fact, when they found out about Wukong being on the journey and with new “companions”, they (Plum and Mihou) felt betrayed. They went to confront Wukong about it, only to come to the conclusion that he was only staying so he wouldn’t be tortured with the circlet.

While Mihou chose to mope, unsure of what to do, Plum had different plans. The way she saw it, if his new companions weren’t alive, they couldn’t torture him and Wukong would be free. Or rather, that’s how Sage was guiding her to think. He’d started to form after their argument in the mountain, and had been keeping on the down low. Plum herself is honestly just a trauma holder. The main reason she oscillates between that and being a persecutor is Sage’s influence.

Together, Plum and Sage hijacked the front to attack the pilgrims, resulting in a fight between them and Wukong that resulting in them losing an eye and even their life.

Mihou began to co-front more and more as their friendship with Wukong became stronger. He even told Wukong his name. He did not share that with DBK though, or Azure, Peng, or YellowTusk when they joined the group.

As the Brotherhood formed, so did Windy, Warrior, Shade, and Smokey.

Eventually it got to the point where Mihou could no longer deny he had feelings for Wukong. At this point Macaque also viewed him as a friend, so he didn’t have any objections to the two of them dating. Which Wukong also agreed to (although he was still unaware about the whole system thing). The ‘plum’ nickname Wukong gave Mihou is where Plum got her name from. She’d been bouncing around between various couple nicknames as her name up to that point. Mihou even showed Wukong his six ears, and it was the first time he ended up being complimented on them.

However, the wonderful peace they’d found could only last for so long. The attempted attack on the Celestial Realm happened, and failed miserably.

So, lore for the Shadow System AU. Which would start at the beginning. In the shadows between the realms, whispers of knowledge gathered. The power collecting until it formed into a young mystic monkey. Child Mihou was deposited in the mortal realm.

Mihou began to explore, finally finding a village. A human village. However, since it was the first village he happened upon he stayed near it anyways. Despite the unfortunate side effects of that decision.

Why was staying near the village bad for Mihou? Well, because it was a human village they viewed all demons as threats. Including him. And he unintentionally made things worse for himself by essentially Bruno-ing himself by telling people about futures he heard. And the Shadow System began to form to cope.

Macaque was more of a father figure to Mihou when he was younger, but as he got older it shifted more to being an older brother figure. And for anyone wondering why Plum showed up when Mihou didn’t even have friends…. He could still see couples being coupley. And relationships within systems are very common (who wants to guess who Moonbeam’s parents are?).

For most of his childhood until older teenager verging on young adult, Mihou lived near that village, being joined by Macaque, Yue, Rumble and Savage, Plum, and Moonbeam. Until Blaze joined.

Macaque tried to figure out what to do with this new stage of life they found themselves in. Something that irritated him to no end was that while he was trying to do this, Mihou kept sneaking into the front. And while in the front, he’d go back to Flower Fruit Mountain and spy on the Monkey King.

However, they were eventually spotted. This time there was no peace offer, as the Monkey King went on the offensive. Until Mihou told him he wanted to take him up on his offer, despite Macaque still having his reservation.

The Monkey King was a bit hesitant, but also eager for a companion that was also a mystic monkey. A tentative friendship began to form as Macaque begrudgingly took up residence on the island. He fully proved his merit however when a demon king who’d heard of Monkey King’s defeat over DKH and wanted to challenge the rising king. Macaque aided Wukong both in fighting the demon, and with forming an alliance with him after.

That was how the two met the Demon Bull King.

Macaque didn’t think much of the capture of the monkeys of Flower Fruit Mountain. It was just another routine take over. Until the absent king returned.

He’d expected a fight, but was caught off guard when the Monkey King gave him a peace offer. So excited to meet another mystic monkey, he offered Macaque a place in his kingdom if he stopped helped the Demon King of Havoc (DKH).

Not trusting him, Macaque turned down the offer. However, the offer grabbed Mihou’s attention. Macaque’s return to DKH proved to be fruitless, as he was soon defeated by the Monkey King. Leaving them once more alone.
