I really enjoy answering lore questions, there’s a lot going on in this AU and the characters and events are not remotely 1:1 recreations of the movie so a lot of this I came up with myself!

Trigger warnings for narcissistic abuse:

Shadow stayed with Vaati all throughout college, with Vaati frequently switching from being hostile to lovebombing Shadow, basically guilting him into staying by making him believe that ‘nice’ Vaati was the ‘real’ Vaati, and Shadow had to stay and listen to him to keep him stable. He left after Vaati started physically pushing him around, grabbing him and leaving bruises, and ran away pretty much the second they graduated.

Three to four years of constant emotional manipulation leaves a lasting scar.
