The showrunners on Malec:
Todd: The relationship, which is someone that’s hundreds of years old is an awesome character to write, because already they’ve got all these layers of history, both emotional and story, and they’ve lived through so much, and they’re so dynamic... Also someone who is carefree and a bit of a partier, has hung out with David Bowie and Freddie Mercury... and now you have Alec Lightwood. This 22 year old, closeted, uptight, anxious, driven in his own way, grinded by an overdominating mom and a cheating dad, and a bit of an emotional mess and stunted... what an amazing combo! Sign me up for that feature film, that romantic comedy called Malec. You could do this with all the relationships, but I feel like Cassie, those two, just forgetting the actors and how great they are, when you just look at the writing and the characters, it’s really dramatic gold. And the actors just made it that much better.
Darren: I would agree with what Todd says about those characters. There is so much emotion and so much history with them that those were always really great things to sit down and write.
