normalize stealth games cutting out the quicksave middle man and just letting you rewind time
Review: Shadwen
Shadwen is a third person stealth game that relies on a useful time manipulation mechanic. Time moves forward when you move and you have the ability to rewind time at any moment, allowing you to fix mistakes in an instant. This becomes an important mechanic that you’ll use often since you quickly discover that one hit from a guard will kill you. This can make the game feel too easy since you can use it at will.
But the upside to this time manipulation mechanic is that it allows you to experiment. The game is less punishing because it was designed as a physics-based playground. Levels are filled with objects like exploding barrels or boxes that can be manipulated to fall onto and kill enemies. Since there are plenty of opportunities to manipulate the physics of these objects it’s clear that killing guards with objects is what the game wants you to do. Strapping a bomb onto a box and pushing it off of a ledge to kill a group of enemies is very satisfying.

I just finished Shadwen on PS4.
It’s a REALLY dark game lol kinda obvious considering it’s a stealth game set over the course of one night. Even with the torches scattered across the level, it’s still too dark to make out some objects.
The stealth levels in this game is spread out across 15 chapters and I think that’s a tad bit too long because it gets tiring at certain levels 😅 it’s still fun to stabby stab someone and there are paths to do a passive run, but come on…it’s a stealth assassination game 🙃
At the very end, they asked me a very confusing yes or no question and that fucked up a trophy i’ve been planning to get. Welp, not doing that AGAIN 🙃🙃🙃
And that’s my thoughts on Shadwen.
A pure stealth assassination game with elements of time manipulation and buddy mechanics. I had my fun with it, but I don’t have the free time to replay the chapters and get the plat 😂

Shadwen - nieco rozczarowująca przygodówka z podwórka Frozenbyte
Tytułowa Shadwen to klasyczna wyszkolona zabójczyni - zimna, zwinna piękność.
Shadwen
I may have just found something amazing, there's a bunch of games on sale in the psn store, and one of them is Shadwen.
You play as Shadwen, a woman on the hunt to assassinate the king, but run into an orphan girl Lily who follows you along your journey (she affects a few game-play mechanics, such as opening doors, she also can’t be noticed by guards, so don’t worry about that(believe me i tried))
However you may have to kill guards along the way, and you can either try to do it out of the smol childs sight, which includes hiding bodies from her, or not care and let her see you massacre people or find an already dead guard you didn’t bother to hide, how she feels about you effects dialogue and certain achievements, to get the platinum trophy will take more than two playthroughs it looks like.
The other option is to not kill anyone at all, but I’m saving that for another playthrough. (currently I am murdering everything for the trophies to kill every guard, so at the same time I’m letting Lily see my misdeeds, boy does she have an opinion about me.)
Plus there's a grappling hook and physics objects, so of course I instantly dropped the $10 for it, and it certainly delivers. With the rope you can swing up to higher elevations, and then fall onto a guard, killing him instantly. You can also pull wooden objects to create distractions, or onto a guards head... killing him instantly.
Besides knives and physics there are other craft-able items, for which you find parts for strewn about the levels in chests. So far I’ve found schematics for the grappling hook, duh, a landmine, poison dart launcher, and “sticking bombs”, but there is room in the inventory bar for more than double the schematics I already have.
Having played the first 6 levels out of 15 total, I highly recommend Shadwen to any stealth game fans, but I’ll finish my review once I finish the game. I’m posting this now to let people know it’s on sale rn, and gush about it because I’m having too much fun.
