Hi :) I wondered if I could ask something without a meme? because I love getting to know peoples ocs and well, celebration days are coming up I wondered; If your ocs were companions in origins, what kind of gift (like the gold bars for zev etc.) would raise their approval?

I am always up for answering whatever random OC questions, memes or no memes. I should probably start talking about my other OCs more too so thank you for the general question

Now, here is a Christmas shopping list for everyone:

Adam Trevelyan: Horse and dragon figures, crystallized fossils, armor polish and blade oil, exciting adventure books, things that are actually for his horse

Shaelyn Lavellan: Herbalism supplies, frilly little cakes, enchanted jewelry 

Thergwen Cousland: Mabari-related items (including gifts for her mabari), whetstones, weapon and armor runes, really nice steaks and, totally non-suspiciously, anything related to werewolves

Jarath Mahariel: Sweets, honeyed fruits, fancy ornate scabbards for his knives, trap-making supplies, remedies for the occasional itching powder mishap

Thank you for answering. But now I have another question if you don't mind. How did they get these scars? Is there a story behind it?

Oh of course there’s some stories, I’ll give a quick rundown:

Adam:

His most prominent scar is on his left eyebrow, a good hit from a wayward bit of sharp stone shrapnel that went flying in the outburst of energy that destroyed the Divine Conclave

As a child, he got hit in the face with a stick hard enough to leave a small nick on the bridge of his nose while playing with one of his cousins

A dragon bit him in the leg and it left some marks which he of course thinks is totally badass

The Venatori launched a night raid on one of the Inquisition’s camps, leaving no time for armor. Those night guards still tell the story of the time the Inquisitor fended off an attack with nothing but his axe and his undershorts.

Shaelyn:

The pair of diagonal scars along the left side of her face are from a pack of blighted wolves that seemed to materialize out of the woodland trail her clan was making their way through. She thinks it was carelessness to let herself get hit like that, but doesn’t mind the scars themselves.

Thergwen:

Thergwen, force of nature that she is, managed to keep herself relatively scar-free until the battle with the Archdemon, when it knocked her shield out of her hand and raked its claws across her cheek. She likes to use these gnarly-looking slashes as a visual aid while talking about it.

Jarath:

Some clean cuts on his forearms, from mishaps with his own dagger

Bitemark-like indents from stepping on a bear trap that he might or might not have set himself

An arrow scar right on his left buttcheek that only Zevran has seen but everyone else totally knows about

It's been a while since I've talked about any of my da babies. Guess one fact about my Lavellan siblings is that they both have the same sense of humour. When Kyne and Sera go around pranking everyone, Akinlana has to really try to compose himself, even laughing when he's the one being pranked. He also, may or may not have been a silent accomplice in some. What amuses your characters? Or what's their favourite joke and/or prank?

I think you should talk about your babs more, they sound like good babs

Now, Sera became something like a little sister to Adam. A very persuasive little sister who often talked him into getting up to mischief with her, because her strategy to accuse him of being no fun proved to be pretty effective. While he willingly lets her drag him into her shenanigans, he tries to keep her from going too over the top and doing anything that would create any unneeded tension between Inquisition members. But somebody getting a pie in the face sometimes is pretty funny, even if that person might be him sometimes.

It’s also probably easier to list what he’s not amused by. Jokes that are terrible at least get an amused little snort just because of how terrible they are. Silly observations the others make in the field also get their own snirts. Adam’s pretty easy.

You referred to everyone in that ask, so I’ll give a rundown of the others: The girls aren’t quite so easily amused as our Lord Inquisitor here, but Shaelyn can be caught off guard by particularly clever puns and wordplay, and Thergwen can totally lose it at a well-timed (usually raunchy) joke here and there.

Part of why Jarath’s token animal is the jackal is because of their mythological role as tricksters, but he’s actually not much of a prankster himself. He’s just also easily amused and never lets a potentially funny comment go to waste. Even if he’s the only one who finds it funny.

💓 WHEN DID THEY HAVE THEIR FIRST CRUSH?

Adam was just starting to have feelings for the girl his family thrust him at, even though they'd been fooling around when they saw each other once every month or two. Things might have developed further if she hadn't been exposed as a mage and carted off to Starkhaven's circle. He was around 16-17 at the time.

Shaelyn never felt much for anyone until Cullen happened. She wasn't necessarily against that sort of thing, she just spent most of her time among clan Lavellan as a dedicated First, and all the duties that entailed. Then she gets tangled up in this whole Inquisition thing, and hey, the commander's kind of cute when he's nervous.

And then Haven gets destroyed, they have a somewhat awkward conversation in Skyhold about how nice it is to see each other alive, and she thinks "creators I think I'm falling for a shemlen of all things."

i don't know how oc fact exchanges "work," but panoen lavellan doesn't refuse to wear shoes because he's an elf. he refuses to wear shoes because they're so uncomfortable. vivienne and josie HATE IT and absolutely wrestled him into shoes for the winter palace. (he "mysteriously lost them" roughly an hour in.)

You have the concept down pretty well: leave a tidbit about your OCs in somebody’s inbox, they comment on it and tell you a fact about theirs. Everybody gets a turn to share~

Meanwhile here’s Adam inheriting my tendency to almost always be wearing shoes when I’m not loafing around at home, and sometimes even when I am if I have somewhere to go soon. Of course this being a fantasy world and all, he’s usually wearing leather boots. And probably whatever the most casual kind of closed soled footwear in Thedas is. Sometimes e’ll put his boot-clad feet up on the table if he’s sitting at one too, what the hell son

My own Lavellan will wear footwear depending on the environment: more open sandal type shoes in somewhere warm like the desert areas, and full boots in places like the Fallow Mire where there’s all sorts of nasty things to step in. More comfortable places like Skyhold, though, she’s likely to wear those foot-wraps that the Dalish are typically shown with.

Adam: "A dog! I've always wanted a dog. Do mabari come in fluffy breeds? Because I'd want one of those. Stormwind might get a little jealous, but he'll get over himself eventually."

Shaelyn: "I want a home for my people. Just... not in the way Solas wants. I want to coexist with the rest of Thedas, not take it over. And, for the record, that's how I've felt even before I married a human."

Thergwen: "I'd like for the Blight to stop existing, thanks. Maybe just get rid of the darkspawn all together, while you're at it."

Jarath: "I think more than anything, I... I want Tamlen back. It might make things with Zevran a little weird, but maybe he'd be open to it, who knows."

Your choice of Dragon Age OC! (Or feel free to answer for multiple OCs!) Your OC has a dangerous secret, if they can't tell their LI, who out of their companions do they trust the most to keep this secret?

I'm sorry this took so long to answer, I had an unexpectedly busy, stressful day and that's like the antithesis to creativity. Also slightly different definitions of "dangerous" for each (I defaulted to something incredibly embarrassing), but I decided to answer for everyone because it's cool of you to go around and ask people questions about their OCs.

- Adam is most likely to go to Cassandra first when it comes to matters of the 'don't tell Dorian' variety. She was the first to trust him, and by the time Corypheus is defeated, their friendship is unbreakable. He also feels kind of bad about exposing her love of smutty literature, so he figures if he shares one of his own secrets it'll make them even.

They have a brief discussion about telling Varric, since he knows Cassandra's shameful secret too, and they form a compromise: She can tell Varric, but only after this is all said and done and the Inquisitor has proven himself. Also after the book is written.

- Shaelyn isn't the kind of person who has many secrets, but as a newly-appointed Inquisitor there was a certain handsome commander she found herself compelled to impress. She and Dorian became fast friends, as they both knew what it felt like to be an outsider and to be treated like one. They would also frequently discuss magic theories, and the scenario my foggy mind just formed around it is this:

The conversation inevitably shifts toward Shaelyn's eye for a certain strapping ex-Templar, Cullen's awkwardness is infectious even when he's not there, and this elvan woman who's usually very adept at choosing her words ends up blurting something she shouldn't have. Dorian laughs heartily, and then promises not to tell for the low, low price of the finest bottle of brandy currently in the Inquisition's possession.

- Thergwen and Zevran really hit it off, you know, as friends. Nearly everyone in DA:O seems to have had a hard life, but Zevran's was especially hard, and Thergwen certainly thinks so after he admits he threw himself at her hoping she would kill him. She knows Alistair has seen his fair share of hardship as well, but she doesn't want to burden him with worry over her. So, sometimes, when there's something she needs to get off her chest, it's her stabby elf BFF she'll go to.

- Okay admittedly being best friends with previous LIs is usually a thing I end up doing, because Jarath and Alistair are a pair of doofy brothers-in-arms and they'll always have each other's back through anything, be it dragons or darkspawn or dangerous secrets. No matter how embarrassing.
