gonna answer this one for Val, seeing as she was my first DA OC

the first time she killed someone, she was 26 years old (or, Act 2 of DA2). the immediate effect was that she threw up, which is a perfectly reasonable reaction to killing someone. however, it also started her down a path that eventually led to her deciding that murder was a good way to solve problems. and i mean, it’s pretty effective, for the most part

Imryll: Human bandits were the biggest threat to her clan - so she was terrified of them and thought of them as ~bad. Growing up Dalish, her clan shared everything and was communal so she didn’t understand poverty and not having enough. During the game when she sees the kinds of things that pushes people to desperation, she understood more. But as always, she’s still careful.

Caridad: The same as Imryll, but since she was born a noble she also turned her nose up at them. Like Imryll she never knew poverty AND she had the privilege of that nobility in the Circle so she couldn’t fathom why anyone would do things like that. However, her realization comes earlier. After the Circles fell and she had to go on the run for a year she understood then why sometimes people have to do what they have to do to survive. But she’s still scared of them

Obscure ask for your Dragon Age OC! (Or feel free to answer for multiple OCs!) How good is your OC at being stealthy? Has there ever been a time that your OC has had to be very sneaky and either failed or triumphed?

Hi there! Okay, so this varies between all three:

My Warden, Meira Cousland, is a natural rogue. Stealth is pretty much her way of life. One time, her dog was the only being able to find her in the camp.

My Champion, Garett Hawke, is alright I guess, but he loves to come in with a bang, literally.

My Inquisitor, Therlian Lavellan, is a total noob at stealth despite being a Dalish. Maybe that’s why he was sent away, his people were just so annoyed with his loud endeavors that they wanted some peace and quiet.

Thanks for asking! I'm gonna go through all of my favourites here, because hey finally a good excuse to ramble about all of them at once :D

My Warden Lyna Mahariel strikes me as a mustelid of some sort, probably a mink, all stealthy and petite and absolutely vicious if you happen to cross her - I just feel like the mink would fit perfectly this particular elven assassin. A cute small dark death noodle.

Narra Lavellan, the number one Inquisitor in my heart, is definitely some sort of bird. I just haven't figured out what kind of bird just yet. A very good bird, anyway. She's so free and ready for adventure, and seems to view the world from a higher vantage point (tbh there's more than a little bit of insufferable miss know-it-all in her). No matter where she goes, she knows where her nest is, remembers the way back to her loved ones. Doesn't sing, tho.

The Qunari warrior that goes only by the name "Q" makes me think of a wolf, specifically one that's been separated from her pack and wound up with a bunch of strangers in a closed space - a good person full of anger and frustration, her actions reinforcing all the wrong stereotypes, very easy to mislabel as a dangerous beast when she's just trying to survive through this shit.

And then there's the deer, my lil bambi Alaris Trevelyan, the softest mage ever imaginable, who starts his journey with the Inquisition as a fawn with speckled fur and wonder in his eyes, and grows up to be the most majestic stag, a pair of antlers as his well-earned crown, very wise and 100% worried out of his mind, will do a ridiculous jump in the air if you happen to startle him.

N - Favourite animal?             

Cats. Every variety (including the big cats). I just love every cat so much.

O - Where would I like to travel                

I have a mighty need to visit an ocean. It’s been something I’ve felt I had to do for a very long time, so hypothetically, if I was going to travel, I would go somewhere with an ocean.

P - What kind of music I like.

I’d call my taste in music eclectic. I mainly listen to a lot of rock (mostly the emo and goth sorts), but I’m pretty open to trying other music genres. There is no type of music I would consider embarrassing to listen to, and I have a lot of respect for people who make music.

"Are you tired? Here, I'll carry you the rest of the way."

She stopped doing some things: going out with the other hunters (much to her obvious boredom), trying to tend to the horses and other steeds, hauling about firewood, and Hanhari himself had long since barred her from going out on their various quests. But he could not stop her from attending the small meetings at the wartable. Blackwall oft lingered behind her as she traversed the many steps up to the heart of the keep, only getting more concerned that one day her balance would fail her and she'd go tumbling back... It was no pleasant thought, but Miris was still quite graceful. Even though she was beginning to look full to bursting.

His Lady held herself well, but this particular discussion had been a long one. The man wasn't accustomed to being around pregnant women, but he knew when a soul had become weary. As they left the war room and headed back out of the keep, Blackwall saw that weariness in Miris' heavy shoulders. "Are you tired?" A bit of a silly question, but worth asking to get her attention anyway. "Here," he pulled the Elvhen woman close and reached down to pull her legs off the ground, "I'll carry you the rest of the way." Miris may have been an elf, but she wasn't tiny. She had the body of an experienced hunter, and was quite pregnant on top of that. (His mother had told him once he was a big baby.) He made sure to take care when he pulled her up.

Miris gave a small gasp of surprise, but quickly settled in his arms. The trust the woman had for him, even now and after everything, boggled the minds of many. Including his own, perhaps most of all. "Thank you, ma'len. You're very good to me. And warm," she chirped happily, nuzzling her way into his neck and giggling when his beard tickled her nose. "Are you sure you are not also tired?"

"I'm fine, my Lady." He kept his grip firm and tight, especially as they approached the stairs. Miris still wasn't the heaviest thing he'd ever carried and even giving her the smallest of breaks was worth every bit of effort. "...I'm glad I can keep you warm."

"Mmm, even better than a blanket, ma'len. Will you watch the sky go dark with me tonight, before we lie down?" The barn didn't have the best of views, but Miris enjoyed it immensely anyway. Looking out from the second story over some of the grounds of Skyhold.

"I'd be an honor, my Lady." He pressed on, down all the many steps so they could get back to the barn and sit about for a while. He'd bring her dinner straight from the kitchens to make sure she could avoid having to take yet more stairs just to regain her strength. Eventually then, some time after that, they'd settle down together, and the human man would keep her warm still. Warmer than any quilt or fur could, supposedly.

The Lady claimed, without doubt each time he'd asked, that this was because he loved her. Perhaps it didn't make him warmer, but she wasn't wrong otherwise. He did love her.

I'm so chuffed you reblogged my obscure asks post! Your choice of Dragon Age OC (or feel free to answer for multiple OCs!) How does your OC handle themselves in a crisis? Who is the first person they jump to protect? Have they ever become paralysed by fear during a battle?

I’ll answer for all three. Thanks for asking!

For Lyna Mahariel - Lyna doesn’t think well on her feet. She needs a moment to consider her options and look at the problem through several angles. So in a time of crisis she tends to go into statue mode, not reacting visibly until she’s had more time to decide how she’s going to react. This gives the impression that she’s good at remaining calm under stress, when in reality she’s really freezing. Lyna will step in to protect anyone she sees as weaker than herself. If she perceives them as on her level, then they’re on her own. She’ll help them in a fight if they need it, but it’s not protection. Lyna doesn’t feel fear during or even before a battle, but rather, after. Once she has the chance to sit down and think, only then do her hands begin to shake and the fear creep into her belly, as she starts to consider all the ways things could have gone wrong.

For Leopold Hawke - During a crisis, Hawke tends to shut down. He doesn’t want anyone else to see him weak and struggling, and so he gets harder, and quieter and keeps his thoughts even more private. He sees his struggles as a burden and so he tries to shoulder them alone. Hawke overestimates his own strength, and he has an overactive sense of duty - and so in his case, he jumps to protect everyone in his sight. It’s how he came to collect the assortment of people he has in Kirkwall. They are in his life, and so he is personally responsible for their well-being. During a fight, Hawke ignores all feelings - pain and anger and fear included. Like a raging beast, he’ll keep plowing ahead, forcing his mark on the battle. 

For Ryn Lavellan - Ryn will seek help during a crisis, whether that means going to his friends for support and advice, or seeking out experts and knowledge for a way to deal with whatever it is he’s being forced to handle. Dorian would be the first person he would jump to protect - not because of any perception of weakness on his lover’s part, but because he can’t stand the thought of him hurt. He has found himself frozen with fear before, but he was able to shake it off, thinking quickly despite his terror and doing whatever he needed to get out of the situation.
