RETURN OF THE SHAKE!
Hello ladies and gents! As you may have noticed the Shake team were unfortunately forced to take a rather over long hiatus from the music blogging as life tends to intervene in such matters. After a rather long time we are now finally ready to rejoin the world as a revamped and ready team of musical enthusiasts and nosey fangirls. Please go ahead and hit that follow button up there to ready yourself for all the latest on new releases, reviews, featured artists, songs of the week and more. To make sure we start out on the right foot we will need a minimum number of notes and followers from this post to get as many people involved as possible so please SIGNAL BOOST THIS TO ALL YOUR FRIENDS WHO LOVE MUSIC AS MUCH AS US! Stay rad and stay tuned folks!
Featured Artist: Lewis Watson!
If you're a fan of Ed Sheeran, the acoustic music scene of even just music in general, then this week's featured artist is for you! Lewis Watson, the 19 year old hailing from Oxford, is fast becoming one of my favourite artists around and if you haven't heard of him, you should have!
From humble beginnings making videos on YouTube, Lewis Watson has now released his first EP 'It's got four sad songs on it BTW' and we here at Shake, think it's wonderful.
Definitely check Lewis out on Youtube, Facebook and his website for more!
Best of luck from the Shake team to Lewis in his musical endeavours!
Kieran dishes the dirt on Delorentos!
Not too long ago these guys were our Song of the Week with ‘Right to Know’ and now we’ve finally got answers for all the questions we know you guys have been itching to ask! We are talking about none other than Delorentos, ladies and gentlemen. We had the pleasure to have a little chat with co-lead singer, Kieran!
Shake: So as is the tradition, first things first; what first inspired you to get involved in making your own music? Kieran: I think, for whatever reason, I always wanted to be a musician. I loved music from when I was a kid - from when my dad used to sit at the end of my bed listening to Beatles albums as low as he could so's not to wake me, and I loved singing. I remember one day in school at the end of the year, when it was sunny, one of the other lads brought in a guitar, and we opened the fire escape of the classroom and they played a song that they wrote. I couldn't get my head around how they could write their own songs. One of them just shrugged and said - "you just think about something, and then sing about it". I think that's when I decided that I would be a songwriter. All I had to do was sort out a band, and while it took me a few years after that, I was lucky enough to find that eventually.
Shake: Wow, that is definitely a much more interesting and meaningful answer than I was expecting! Now, I big part of your life together as a band is touring, does it ever get stressful spending so much time together on tour? Kieran: Yep. It generally dissipates as soon as we get off tour though!
Shake: I had a feeling it might! I suppose a suitable question to follow would be, who would you say is the messiest band member? Kieran: The other three have various hygiene issues. Luckily, my personal hygiene is a beacon of inspiration to the others.
Shake: Of course, we had never doubted your cleanliness Kieran! Now, tell us, is there a story behind the band’s name? Kieran: Yes. It's boring though.
Shake: I believe that may be a story for another time then, perhaps? A more interesting question now then, what would you say is the weirdest thing you have ever done? Kieran: Ever? Depends on context. I mean, becoming a full-time musician is pretty mental to some people. I've worked for a very short time in the third world (Haiti). I've jumped off things that I shouldn't have. I've drunk too much and said the wrong thing a lot. I've dressed up/acted in some weird things and written some weird songs... I dunno.
Shake: So a long story short to our audience, Kieran does not know. But I’m gonna say it’s a tie between, became and full time musician and, worked in Haiti. To round us off then Kieran, what would your advice be to young people looking to get involved in music and the music industry? Kieran: Learn how to motivate yourself and be as creative as you can... and don't be afraid to fail, 'cos you will. When you succeed though, it's worth it.
Wonderful stuff from Kieran! Many thanks from the Shake team for his time and our best of luck to Delorentos for the future! Also, we hope everyone had a wonderful Easter!
Featured Artist : The Keepsakes!
You guys, hold the phone, we have a new featured artist here at Shake! This time we've decided unsigned North London folk band 'The Keepsakes' should hold the honor! I discovered these guys a couple days ago while I was trawling through endless gig listings looking for a good line up and they happened to be playing the same gig as Ruby and the Ribcage at the Camden Barfly in March! Coincidence? I think not!
Anyway I thought I'd check their music out because I liked their name and I was so very pleasantly surprised that I just had to make sure they were our latest featured artist! So, if you have a chance you should definitely go and check The Keepsakes out on Myspace, Facebook and Twitter and also check out their wonderful song 'Hit the Ground Running'. Have a lovely evening!
Song of the Week #7
There's a funny story behind this week's SOTW actually so here goes; I was mindlessly roaming through the endless social network that is Twitter and I happened to stumble upon the twitter page of a band that call themselves 'Ruby and the Ribcage', I decided to check them out on SoundCloud and well, lets just say I wasn't disappointed! Now wasn't that a lovely story?! Check out their live demo of their beautiful track 'Horror'.
