Shaman Ghost & Dolphus came down to the wire together in the Pimlico Special!

Dolphus set a solid pace and fought on gamely in the stretch, but couldn’t hold off the hard-trying Shaman Ghost. The stablemates were more than 7 lengths clear of Conquest Windy City back in 3rd.

Shaman Ghost has had an amazing start to the season; he was a solid 2nd to Arrogate in the G1 Pegasus Cup, a clear winner in the G1 Santa Anita Handicap, and now a winner of the G3 Pimlico Special. 

Dolphus is a nice looking half-brother to the great Rachel Alexandra. His big performance in the Pimlico Special was his 2nd and by far his best try in graded stakes company.

SHAMAN GHOST all heart in Gr.III Pimlico Special!

Multiple graded winner Shaman Ghost (Ghostzapper- Getback Time, by Gilded Time) adds yet another historic race to his resume with a determined victory in the Gr.III Pimlico Special stakes, his third start this year. A game Dolphus finished second with Conquest Windycity back in third. Name Changer and Watershed rounded out the top five. 

The Jimmy Jerkens trainee’s record now stands at 16: 7-2-2 with earnings of  $3,719,311. His resume also includes victories in the Queen’s Plate, Gr.I Woodward Stakes, Gr.I Santa Anita Handicap, and Gr.II Brooklyn Invitational.

This might have been my favorite moment from today. After winning the Pimlico Special rather than take Shaman Ghost straight to the winner's circle Javier had the pony horse take the two of them back in front of the grandstand so the fans could see him again.
