Family mourns ‘fun-lover Shamar Boyce was devastated when his cousin Shontelle Boyce passed away on her 32nd birthday on August 25. Now, the family has been thrown into mourning again, this time at the loss of Shamar, the island’s latest road fatality. The tragic accident occurred around 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday, along the Belle section of the ABC Highway in the northbound lane between the Norma Niles and Clyde Walcott roundabouts, involving a car driven by a 32-year-old man from Greenidges St Lucy and a motorbike driven by Boyce, of Jessamine Avenue Bayville, St Michael. Both vehicles were travelling north along the roadway when they became involved in a collision. Shamar’s father Christopher Boyce told members of the media that although his son was a “little hard ears”, he was a loving individual who will be missed by all in the close-knit community. “He liked to have a lot of fun. He was sporty. He made everybody laugh. He used to deal with the ash and then he would come home in the evenings and go out doing taxi work. He liked going to the beach, having fun, driving, cracking jokes,” he said. Boyce recalled that he was awakened from his sleep just after 6 p.m. to the news that the last of his two children had lost his life on the road. He said he saw Shamar alive on Tuesday when they had a brief conversation. “He was a fan of cars. He just borrow that bike yesterday. I ain’t know if he borrow it or buy it or what, but he just had it yesterday. But when I came home it wasn’t bout here park, so I don’t know which part he had it. Then I hear the news that he get hit in the Belle and that he gone,” Boyce said. The deceased’s mother is in Trinidad making arrangements to get to Barbados. The young man’s girlfriend Mckayla Lynch who struggled to hold back the tears described her partner of two years as a nice, supportive and joyful person.
