Another toiletry item I was curious to try! I had no idea these existed until they turned up in a search for something else.
It's basically a shower cap with a no-rinse cleaning solution and apparently like microfiber cloth lining in there. You just stick it on your head and massage it around for a few minutes. (After around 20 seconds in the microwave if you want it warm.)
Then just take it off and towel off the bit of remaining liquid.
I was kind of skeptical, but there were enough reviews for various brands saying that they really were the next best thing when you can't get a proper hair wash for whatever reason. And that they really did get rid of that itchy unwashed gross feeling.
Not surprisingly, they're supposed to work best with shorter hair. And I should have that covered, with the new buzz cut. 😅
Seemed worth a try. I'm three weeks in the hospital without a hair wash now, and I'm not sure how long before that while I was in bad shape at home. Probably at least the same. Even with the buzz cut coming as a relief over lying around on long and curly before 😵, my head feels nasty sweaty and itchy.
I basically just decided to try that brand because it had good reviews--and there were single caps available at a somewhat reasonable price, without needing to buy 3-6 of them before I know if it's any good for me.
I didn't see anything in there that I know offhand to be concerned might give me an even itchier head, but we'll see. Especially with the sensitive eczema-prone skin, I am very cautious of any new product going on my body. Never mind cleaning things you don't rinse off.
Though, as a side note? So far, this stuff is working out great for my skin. Though we have been rinsing it off some.
After a couple of washes with the standard no-rinse liquid soapy stuff they use here, it really started tearing my skin up. Itching, peeling, it just wasn't good. So, a very nice staff person (honestly still not sure how job titles work here) brought out this cream to use instead.
No rashes, soft skin, not too strong a scent. Huge improvement, and I would totally recommend it.
Anyway, I am hoping to get that same staff person who I'm pretty sure should be working here overnight again to help me with at least an extra towel for the shampoo cap in the morning. If she's not too busy.
(Since I was cleared for that by PT/OT, I am also hoping to use the shower at some point. But, that really is a plan for when things are not very busy, which is basically never around here with the notorious NHS understaffing. Especially with someone needing to stay in there with me out of caution. 🙄 Best to go ahead and hopefully get my head cleaner ASAP.)
