I *LIKE* how I got Sousuke’s voice right, like it was differentiated from Rin’s. I was actually getting a really bad sore throat from reading it, but I managed to do it! Thus made quite a bit of mistakes with the names and all. But still had lots of fun! I’m gonna read out ALL the chapters! (Except the steamy bits.)

This is so cute and sweet.  It’s nice to see such thought put into Abe’s character and his friendships as well as his relationship with Mihashi.

Christmas Sweaters is a visual novel created by Shaples. The sprites in the game were made by another artist, and there aren’t any CGs, so I can’t speak to the creator’s artistic skill -- although I did like the sprites and thought they matched the characters’ personalities well. The writing is SO good though, that alone should be grounds to play it. The characters’ personalities really shine through in both their adorable banter and Sam’s hilarious inner monologue, so despite the shortness of the game it feels like you genuinely get to know the pair. And it’s just so CUTE! I know that’s sort of the point in these games, God knows I’ve been reviewing them long enough to learn that, but it’s done incredibly well, especially once you consider how short the timeframe is for the events in the plot. I have one little quibble, which is that it comes down to your choices (directly, on some paths) whether the roads are closed in the morning. I have a thing about events actually following logically from the choices, so that screwed with the immersion a little bit for me, but given that that’s the only thing coming to me when I look for problems besides “I want more!” I feel like it’s fair of me to say it’s definitely worth a play! I just wish I could have recommended it a couple of weeks ago, it’s a little late for Christmas cheer now. Maybe tuck it away for next December?

The premise of the game is that the protagonist, Samantha, is working alone at a cafe on Christmas Eve night when a guy starts knocking on the door. He explains that he got stuck in a snow bank and his cell phone died, so wants to use her phone to hire a tow truck. But on Christmas Eve during a serious storm, nobody’s available to help him, and it’s up to Sam to decide what she’ll do with the stray.

There’s definitely some sexual tension, but I can report (with a little bit of disappointment to be 100% honest with you guys) that nothing explicit occurs, depicted or otherwise.

Ty: Friendly Type

Obviously, it probably wouldn’t work out too well for Ty if he was an asshole in the situation he finds himself, but he seems like he’s a pretty great guy on general principle and definitely goes above the call of duty during his time with Sam. He constantly compliments Sam on her generosity, her cooking, and pretty much any other relevant aspect he can think of. However, he remains a safe distance romantically unless Sam initiates something -- he doesn’t want to make her uncomfortable in her own home when she doesn’t even have a good method of kicking him out. In the few instances where he can be helpful, he is, waving away any attempts to stop him by explaining that it’s the “least he can do.” However, Ty is far from irresponsible, and is actually working on his dissertation as an astrophysicist (Cue swooning. Or is that just me?).

“For me,” he said, “it’s more like… there are different parts of me, and I don’t share all of them with everyone. Like a garden full of hedges and gates. It’s a big deal for me to let people in, even a little, and when someone tries to look through the bars of a gate I haven’t opened, all I want to do is push them out and run away. It’s not that I don’t want to give, it’s that I don’t like it when people try to take.
