Innovator Brent Barbano on the expansion of his ShareGrid service to the Atlanta area in July 2016.

ShareGrid is a peer-to-peer marketplace where verified filmmakers and creatives can rent gear to and from each other with integrated insurance. Brent has been a freelance cinematographer in Los Angeles for over 9 years. Hailing for Syracuse, NY, he also studied at Syracuse University’s film program. He is a proud member of IATSE Local 600 International Cinematographers Guild.

ShareGrid, Like AirBnB for Camera Gear

ShareGrid: Rent camera gear from local pros in Los Angeles and New York. Nikon Canon Olympus Fuji Peer-to-peer camera rental, like AirBnB for photographers. The idea is that you rent out your gear to other people. The process looks a bit clunky: Renters have to take out insurance for the gear they borrow, and both renter and owner need to meet up to make the exchange. I get the jitters if I watch another person change lenses on my cameras, so I'm not going anywhere near this. I do like that the site (currently) uses a picture of an old Olympus film SLR as its only camera example, though.
