Hi all, I wanted a sharepoint development environment, but I didn't have the required resources available. My laptop had windows 7 professional installed,which seems didn't support sharepoint installations. Every time I tried to install it,it said My O.S didn't support the installation. I tried everything and at last got it installed. The steps of installing were as follows. 1)First of all it does not get installed on windows 7 home premium under any conditions. You require windows 7 professional or higher version. You can download sharepoint foundation server from microsoft website. 2) A word of caution- You require sql server 2008 to install sharepoint server. It won't work if you decide to install it later. Though installation can proceed, you won't be able to configure it. So install it before hand. 3)Then you can follow the installation guide. It is very descriptive and easy. 4)A word of caution- Since you will be installing on your laptop or personal computer,I strongly suggest you to install a stand alone installaion rather than a server farm for the reason that you won't have domain credentials. 5)Then while configuring your installation in central administration you will need to be logged in as Administrator to create web applications,but in most cases you won't be able to see the built in account. The solution for this is mentioned in my other post. After logging as administrator,you will be able to sharepoint.
