CALL TO ACTION: Sign the petition from our friend @saltybluecharni asking for a halt to the shark cull in Queensland. LINK in our IG Story. Message below from our co-founder @nataliekparra 🌊 "Four tiger sharks [6, two additional have been killed since this was posted] have now been killed in Queensland, Australia after two people were bitten in the first shark bite incidents in the area since the 1930s. Immediately after the bites, the government placed baited drumlines in the areas, killing those four and claiming the first two were the ones responsible for the bites with no proof they were indeed the same sharks involved or even of the same species. Fisheries manager #MarkFurner told press the drum lines will stay in place until “the area is secure from any further attacks.” Not quite sure how they’re going to know when that is, but other officials are saying the drumlines will remain for the rest of the week. It’s extremely sad to see such a misunderstood and important animal hooked to a drumline and shot due to two rare incidents. At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter how you feel about sharks. We rely on the ocean and the ocean relies on sharks. So, if you care about the future of our species, you should be paying pretty close attention to what’s happening with their’s. Thank you @chiaraphoto @mermaidsforchange for this photo from the most wonderful day with @oceanramsey @juansharks #sharkIDMoana aboard @oneoceandiving ❤️❤️❤️. It’s a moment I’ll replay in my head for the rest of my life and it makes me so happy to have photos to look back on 🌊❤. #savesharks #helpsavesharks #oneoceandiving #waterinspired #keikoconservation #mermaidsforchange. #apexpredatornotmonster.
