Post-racial Amerikkka is here, have you heard?
Ferguson is happening.
Ferguson
Yo I'm all for social justice and the right to protest, and I definitely think there is a race issue in St. Louis. However, I've lived in STL my whole life and I go to Saint Louis University and how these protests and the police force preparing for the trial decision are being displayed on tumblr is literally nothing like what is actually going on here. I don't drive around and see hundreds of military vehicles, it doesn't feel like I'm living in some post-apocalyptic story, and while most protestors are peaceful, some have really lost the point of protesting. They are just out for blood and trying to mess up STL for good. One certain group has even promised to burn St. Louis to the ground if Darren Wilson is found innocent, and for someone who drives by Ferguson every day and goes to school 7 blocks from the Shaw Shooting, I'm terrified of the upcoming protests.
Note: Please consider boosting this.
Yesterday was surreal. It wasn't devastating for me, personally, but for my co-worker. She lost her step-son on Wednesday during an officer-involved shooting in Reno, Nevada, and was notified yesterday.
Does it even need to be said anymore? Black man killed by white cops.
I wouldn't say this is another Mike Brown. He had warrants out for his arrest and they found him. But they did make sure to not stop there in the narrative, and delve into his sinister criminal past.... Expected character assassination. Society is choosing not to discuss how we could work toward a future where all people have equal chances to not be put in the position where bad decisions are the best chances of having financial independence; to escape the lower levels of our "non-existent" caste system.
Another fun part of this story is the mysterious multi-agency task force that was specifically tracking this man down. They found him, and instead of continuing until he got out of his car, they engaged him as if it was a traffic stop? Okay, traffic stop and I didn't commit a moving violation. I would be freaked the fuck out if they started talking to me about why they pulled me over. They were looking for him, but happened to find him while he was driving? How? Were they following him since he left somewhere? Why specify that a uniformed officer and marked car pulled him over. Was there actually undercover agents around that started this incident?
Meanwhile, this will be ruled a justified shooting when they are done with the investigation.
Independent autopsy on Vonderrit Myers conflicts with police reports
Vonderrit D. Myers Jr. was shot eight times, mostly on the back of the legs and one fatal shot to the side of the head, according to a private autopsy report.
Myers’ family hired pathologist Dr. Cyril H. Wecht to conduct a study of the gun wounds from Oct. 8, when Myers was shot and killed by an off-duty St. Louis Metropolitan Police officer.
Six bullets struck Myers on the rear part of his body…

Ferguson and Shaw are IN St. Louis
not "near"... Don't let them make you think this is happening in Small Town, USA.
You know...Mike Brown may have been a thug. But that doesn't mean he deserves to die the way he did. Nobody deserves to be shot. I don't. You don't. My actions don't give you the privilege to take my life. Your actions don't give me the privilege to take your life. Our fate shouldn't be left in the hands of a stranger. The very thought of my life being taken by a trigger happy cop scares me. Yeah I know I shouldn't disobey the law and I should respect authority, but why is it their privilege to kill me? Are the killings of Mike Brown, Trayvon Martin and Vonderrick Myers the police version of The Purge? It would appear so. "My life was in danger." "He looked suspicious." "He had his hands in his pockets, it may have been a gun." "They were acting over aggressive and their size was intimidating. " Are these legitimate excuses to even kill a human? If I were a cop I can kill you if you gave me the slightest impression of a threat. I can kill you if you started running, I can kill you for reaching for your back seat, I can kill you for pushing me, I can kill you for resisting arrest. Does that even sound fair to you? How could you sleep at night knowing you killed a man for no significant reason? How? Why should you be allowed to kill somebody regardless of what the person did? How would you feel afterwards? What if that was your mother who was shot by your own colleague? What if they told you "She had me in fear for my life. " Same if it was your father. Or a friend. I could NEVER even fathom the thought of me killing somebody. I'm not going to say "fuck the police" or "all cops are evil pigs". But if this is going to get better we need to rid of these more trigger happy cops. How can you protect and serve by killing people for no good reason? Why are you putting fear into people. You're supposed to protect them from danger, but if you aim a gun towards them what are you doing then? You're putting their life in danger and you have the ultimate decision to end their life. It's like you're saying everybody has to be respectful and perfect or else I'll kill you. If you have to spend an hour trying to get a person out their car. DO IT. It's better than killing. If you have to stop a guy from running shot them where it immobilizes them. IT'S HELL OF A LOT BETTER THAN KILLING. End this senseless violence.
