The False Friend

The False-Friend is a most peculiar predator, not only of build but in regards to the method in which it interacts with its prey. Those who gain its attention often come under the impression that it is a lonely creature, desperately seeking any companionship it can, and offers total protection from any perceived threat in return. However, these perceived threats often include the victim's other friends, as well as any interest, goal or desire which would distance them from their protector. It may display confusion and betrayal, unable to understand why its new friend doesn't want to be with them. In a worst case scenario, it can turn violent, even going so far as to threaten and potentially kill the victim if they step out of line. It soon becomes apparent to the victim that the False-Friend does not hold their interests and well-being truly to heart, only perceptually interested in satisfying its own social needs without the required empathy to comprehend their victim's feelings. Typical cases show that it is possible to shake off the False-Friend's possessive grip, however professional help is always at hand should it prove too difficult to combat. Been contemplating the concept of a toxic friend, inspired by the indie game Buddy Simulator 1984, so I thought I'd do a Shawn Coss-esque piece as a re-interpretation of that game and its themes.
