          “how’re you doing this morning?”  he doesn’t expect ‘fine’ or ‘good’ or even ‘okay.’  but he hopes she’ll give him a ‘better.’  but if not, that’s fine, too.  he’s dealt with ‘awful’ and ‘worse than usual’ and even more horrible responses than those.  “you wanna try going over some of your lines for the propo again?”

                               Gentle eyes look over to her to the fellow blonde, but no words flow out of her mouth. Normally small talk with the nations newest celebrity would be simple. An effortless   ‘ congratulations, our District was stunned by your talent. ’. The task was innate, inborn with everything she was and everything she’d learnt. Now though, for the first time in her life, the victor was from her HOME. There was no possible way for her to uphold the act she put on annually and the silence that filled the room was OVERWHELMING, every breath stentorian.  ❛ I guess we won’t be seeing you at school anymore, ❜  She said finally, after what felt like an eternity.  ❛ We’re all really glad it was BOTH of you that won. ❜

               GREY EYES WERE HALF-FLASHING  and half-misty when he clomped into the kitchen, letter clenched tightly in his gloved hand.  he held it up to penna, basically shoving the correspondence in her face to pull her away from her baking concentration.   “how’d my mother know we were getting married?  did you tell her?”   he hadn’t wanted mrs. everdeen at the wedding; he thought he’d made that clear.

               HIS HANDS TREMBLED  and seemed to be coated in blood -- dream blood, of course, for kress was on the victory tour train, not in the arena from his nightmares.   “i’m s-sorry,” he whispered, and his voice trembled, too.  he pulled penna close, holding her tighter in the silken sheets of his bed.  his need for peace and solace -- things only she seemed able to give him -- had overcome his pride.
