Outlander Star Caitríona Balfe Has a Must-Read Comeback for People Who Deny White Privilege
After Balfe posted the essay from Yes! Magazine, entitled “My White Friend Asked Me on Facebook to Explain White Privilege. I Decided to Be Honest,” Denise McAllister wrote back challenging the actress to a debate and condemning her for “falsely accusing a whole race of people of white supremacy and privilege.”
Balfe’s replies began with suggested reading material to help this woman educate herself: “I suggest you read White Fragility by Robin DiAngelo … you may find it illuminating. I also suggest that maybe you stop looking to reconfirm your already entrenched biases and take this moment as a potentially positive learning moment. Good luck to you.”
But McAllister was undeterred — and Balfe soon lost her cool. “Firstly Denise if you want to debate with someone best start off with correct FACTS. I’ve never said all white people are white supremacists BUT every white person is born into a specific white privilege.”
McAllister didn’t just go after Balfe’s viewpoints, but challenged her ability to engage in debate at all, suggesting the actress was out of her depth. Balfe was quick to call her out on this too: “Trying to make people feel small so you can make yourself feel tall also underscores my point … keep talking. You just keep showing yourself up! Bye.”
The icing on the cake? McAllister had been spelling her name incorrectly all along. “Oh and it’s Caitríona ..! For someone with your high education maybe you could spell my name correctly,” Balfe quipped.
And that, my friends, is how you take down a Twitter troll.

Friday Finds
Happy Friday, party people! It is truly a miracle that I did not end this week by diving head first into a paper shredder, because every day has felt like someone has pressed the fast forward button on my life and everything was moving at a 120 mph. I don’t know what how fast a fast forward setting is supposed to go, or if it’s measured in mph, but if it was, I was living it. All of that being…

Timo and his hammock adventures prove that sometimes being a cat is really not that easy.
Supergirl is doomed now that Jessica Jones has premiered.
The success of Jessica Jones premiering on Netflix shouldn't detract from CBS’s Supergirl in the slightest. Are you kidding me?! There can be more than one female hero series on at the same time. To this day, I've seen the pilot episode for Supergirl along with two for Jessica Jones. I do my best to avoid binge-watching.
Both series are also tonally different so comparing them doesn't make sense: this is the classic apples to oranges argument. The intended demographic are completely diverse too. One’s for a younger audience whilst the other focuses on adults.
Case in point: I wouldn’t want my nieces seeing Jessica Jones. I’m sure my sister would feel the same. However, Supergirl, yes, go for it y’all!
When I’m not working, dealing with car trouble, or other stuff, I plan on eventually penning a critique of the pilot episode for Marvel’s Jessica Jones (2015-).
It is lovely to simply have a job again, but I digress, ha ha.
My largest problem I've always had with Superman applies to Supergirl as well: the characters are overpowered thus their villains and fights with said bad guys are done before even starting. This is a complaint I’ve been hearing about Supergirl from comrades that seen each episode. Also, the relationship triangle aggravating stuff I was concerned about in Supergirl's pilot has apparently gotten worse. Which has made me reluctant to return to it.

Heck, besides Loki, Kilgrave, and Fisk, Marvel still has its own problems sticking the landing with when it comes to antagonists cinematic-wise, 2008-Present, despite having such a rich selection at their disposal. Besides them, Red Skull's been decent. The rest are forgettable (or male and white, minus Guardian of the Galaxy's Nebula of course).
On the other hand, I've liked how Thanos has been done, so far.
It's not that Morgan isn't awesome. The guy is a total survivor who pulled himself back from the brink, and that's something Michonne can relate to. There's just not the same kind of chemistry between them as there is between Michonne and Rick. Those two have a quiet, smoldering hotness going for them. Who cares if they're not hooking up in the comics? That doesn't mean they wouldn't be awesome together on the show.

I just had to put this here. I know we all know it but it needs to be read over and over again.
