Just wondering how you're enjoying your go pro session? Would you mind sharing some perks and quirks?
Hey!
I got the GoPro Hero Session as a little tax refund present and to ‘replace’ my phone while running.
Perks...
I picked that one over the other models because of the price, It’s only $199!
It’s super small and light. It’s a square, but probably about the same size as the Hero4 Silver model, and that has a screen and is over $100 more expensive. The Session is small enough to put in the back zippered pocket of my running shorts!
Super easy to upload the photos right to your phone. It creates its own little wifi hotspot so you can sync them right to the phone. You have to sort through a bunch, which I’ll get to in the quirks.
The battery life is super long too! I charge it once every couple of weeks as it gets low. Since you only use power while its taking photos, it’s off and not using power the rest of the time.
One thing that maybe a quirk to some, depending on how you look at it, is the framing, GoPros take really wide angle photos, which I love...but it will bend the edges like a barrel. It is awesome at getting the whole subject in frame through, which I like too.
Quriks...
You can’t zoom or fine tune any of the features. Besides basic settings that you can only change from the GoPro app on your phone. Things like ISO, sharpness, resolution and frames per second. It’s a digital point and shoot camera...basically. I edit the majority of my photos in the VSCO Cam so I can fine tune it later.
You can’t see what your shooting. There is no LCD screen or lens to see though, so framing your photos can be tricky, especially since it's a fisheye/wide angle lens.
You can either do a video or a burst of photos. I’ve found that a burst is easier to go through. You can set it to take a photo every half a second, which will give you more options. You just have to go through them all to find which ones you like! Sometimes it could be a burst of twenty, sometimes theres over 100. They are super easy to download to your phone for later though.
It’s black. Weird quirk. But if I just toss it in my bag, it looks like the rest of the bag. BLACK. I bought a little orange silicone case for it so I can spot it easily! I thought I lost it or it fell under the seat of my car a week ago. OMG. It had me going for about 30 minutes.
Overall, I’m really happy with it. If I take it with me to get running photos I can just set it up and press shoot and then go again without setting up self timer on my phone and being distracted by it. I haven’t gotten any mounts for it, but I did get the tripod setup. My boyfriend got himself the Hero Silver and it is nice little camera too, it's about the same weight and size (but it’s a rectangle) but his was a bit more expensive, and I really just want it for photos. I won’t be taking it out and getting super actiony shots with it!
I know some people will be reading this thinking that I have no tech knowledge, and you’re mostly right. Maybe I’m not getting the full benefits of this action camera because I don’t do action sports with it. But thats ok! It fulfills my needs and I really don’t care for a lot of techy features for something that I am just having fun with.
Hope this helps if you are thinking about getting one! Happy to answer any questions about it.
