Sugar And Spike And Scribbly
Original Art (1976)
Art by Sheldon Mayer
From Heritage Auctions...
Though best known as the originator of DC's kid-stuff comic Sugar and Spike, Mayer pursued a larger career as a founding editor of DC Comics and an productive authority on the industry-at-large. This unique depiction is of Sugar Plumm and Spike Wilson, the infant characters, along with Scribbly Jibbet -- Mayer's autobiographical schoolboy-cartoonist character. The piece is inscribed to collector Charlie Roberts, with a reference to a memorial to pioneering Marvel Comics artist Bill Everett (1917-1973).
Samantha Reads Comics: Adventures in the Bronze Age DC Edition #11
While I'm doing Bronze Age DC, I've also been wanting to check out some of the 70s era of this long-running anthology-format book. (Probably gonna skim around a bit and just dig into the features that catch my eye.)
VERY groovy opening splash by Sekowsky here.
I didn't realize Alec Baldwin appeared in 70s DC comics.
Fuckin badass shit
Nothing like loudly announcing things!
