Continuing my Duke Thomas comic adventure, and I admit-- I have been bamboozled!
I assumed that volume 2 of We Are Robin would come right after volume 1. False! Comic order nonsense wins again. I borrowed volume 2 and started to dive in, and other events have happened. So I looked up a reading order, and the Robin War crossover event happens between volume 1 and volume 2 (and actually contains a single issue of We Are Robin alongside issues from other series that were ongoing at the time).
The reading order I found also mentioned issue #4 of Batman & Robin Eternal, which I read and found very confusing. I've only been reading comics since September, and I had no idea what was going on. So I went back to the beginning of B&RE, and that was helpful for giving me context. (It was also my first time seeing Cass, Steph, and Harper outside of WFA, and it had Jason working with Dick and Tim, so that was pretty cool! And I liked the art! So it didn't bother me to read three more issues of that series besides just the one with Duke and his friends.)
I'm not a huge fan of Dick telling Duke and the crew that they have no idea how much danger they're in. Not to spoil volume 1, but they KNOW what they're doing is dangerous. Maybe Dick was busy doing Spyral stuff and missed some very big Gotham news? (Did Jason and Tim help hide it from him because they knew he'd take it badly?)
This series, or at least the issues I read, does make volume 1 of WAR make a little more sense, with Bruce having amnesia and the GCPD's robot Batman on the prowl.
With that out of the way, the Robin War compilation book was available in my library app, and I have acquired it. So now that I have the right book, I can start reading :)
The beginning of it is a little odd to me. Not because of the copaganda, that's expected, but like. This is the genre of "wouldn't it be cool and heroic to do vigilante crime-fighting" so why are we deconstructing that premise? I dunno. I'm ready for Duke to show up.
